Panachaiki Volleyball Club
Panachaiki Volleyball Club is the volleyball department of Panachaiki, a multi-sport club based in Patras. It was founded in 1928. Its home is the Panachaiki Indoor Hall. In the 2013-14 season the team played in the A1 Ethniki (first division) for the first time. History Panachaiki participated in the 1937-38 Panhellenic championship. The final stage of this championship took place in Patras and the winner was E.A. Patras, the other volleyball Club of Patras. Panachaiki also took place in the 1961-62 Panhellenic championship but was disqualified early. Since the 1970s, Panachaiki has been mostly participating in Gamma and Beta Ethniki (fourth and third division respectively). In the 2007-08 season, it was promoted to the A2 Ethniki (second division) for the first time. In the 2012-13 season, they finished first of their group. The A1 Ethniki ( el, Α1 Εθνική Κατηγορία), often referred to as the Greek Volleyball League, is the highest professional volleyball league in Greece. It is run by the Hellenic Volleyball Federation. It is considered one of the top national leagues in European volleyball, as its clubs have made significant success in European competitions. In the 1968–69 season, the men's Alpha Ethniki category was created at the men's level, which from 1990–91 to 2009–10 was named A1. Panachaiki G.E. (Greek: Παναχαϊκή Γυμναστική Ένωση, ''Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi'', "Pan- Achaean Gymnastic Union") is a Greek multi-sport club based in the city of Patras, Greece. The history of Panachaiki began in 1891, when Panachaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos (Pan-Achaean Gymnastic Club) was founded. In 1894, a rival sports club, Gymnastiki Eteria Patron (Gymnastic Company of Patras), was founded in Patras by former Panachaikos' members. It was only in 1923 that the two clubs agreed to merge, forming Panachaiki Gymnastiki Enosi. Throughout a history of over 120 years, Panachaiki's athletes have won several Olympic medals. Emblematic figures in Panachaiki's history are weightlifter Dimitrios Tofalos and Kostas Davourlis, leader of the great football team that impressed Greece in the 1970s and took part in the 1974 UEFA Cup, being the first Greek countryside football club (outside Athens and Thessaloniki) to achieve that distinction. A2 Ethniki Volleyball
A2 Ethniki Volleyball or Greek A2 Volleyball League is the third-tier of the Greek volleyball championship system in Greece. It used to be the second-tier until the founding of the Pre-league tier replacing A2 as the second tier making A2 the third one, since 2019. It was founded in 1988. The winner teams promoted to A1 Ethniki Volleyball. The championship is held in three groups of teams. The winner of each group plays in a play-off championship and the two best teams of play-off promoted to A1 Ethniki.
