Pan Melanesian Congress
The Pan Melanesian Congress was a political party in Papua New Guinea. It was established in late 2001 by Karimui-Nomane MP Simeon Wai, with Wai as parliamentary leader, Privatization Commission chairman and former MP Ben Micah as party president, and future MP Nixon Duban as president of its student wing. It was immediately brought into Cabinet in advance of the 2002 election, with Wai promoted to Minister for Agriculture and Livestock by Prime Minister Mekere Morauta. The party sought "full political, economic and social integration of the Melanesian nations by the year 2025", with a Melanesian federation along the lines of the European Union, with "a common currency, a Melanesian parliament and common policies on environment protection, resource development, foreign affairs, security and defence". Simeon Wai
Simeon () is a given name, from the Hebrew (Biblical ''Šimʿon'', Tiberian ''Šimʿôn''), usually transliterated as Shimon. In Greek it is written Συμεών, hence the Latinized spelling Symeon. Ben Micah
Hon. Ben Micah was a Papua New Guinean politician. He was a member of parliament for the Kavieng District, Papua New Guinea. Micah served as Minister for Transport, as Minister for State Enterprises under the O’Neill/Dion government from 2012 to 2016, and as Minister for Petroleum and Energy from 2016 to 2017. A long-time member of the People's Progress Party, he led the party from 2014 to 2017. Education Micah attended the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, where he studied accountancy and served as president of the National Union of Students. Career Micah was elected as an MP to Kavieng to the 5th National Parliament in 1992. Nixon Philip Duban is a Papua New Guinean politician. He was a People's National Congress member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea from 2012 until he was unseated by court decision in 2013 and again from a 2013 by-election until 2017. Mekere Morauta
The Right Honourable Sir Mekere Morauta (12 June 1946 – 19 December 2020) was a Papua New Guinean politician and economist who served as the 7th Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea from 1999 to 2002. Inheriting a depressed economy and a fractious legislature, he embarked on fundamental reforms of the country's economy and political system. Before entering politics, Morauta led the post-independence process of building financial infrastructure in Papua New Guinea as Secretary of Finance, Managing Director of the state-owned Papua New Guinea Banking Corporation, and Governor of the central bank. As a member of parliament, he represented Port Moresby North West from 1997 until 2012, and again from 2017 until his death in 2020. West Sepik Province
Sandaun Province (formerly West Sepik Province) is the northwesternmost mainland province of Papua New Guinea. It covers an area of 35,920 km2 (13868 m2) and has a population of 248,411 (2011 census). The capital is Vanimo. In July 1998 the area surrounding the town Aitape was hit by an enormous tsunami caused by a Magnitude 7.0 earthquake which killed over 2,000 people. Bitan Kuok
Bitan (), historically called Shi-Bitan (), is a tourist spot in Xindian District, New Taipei, Taiwan. "Bitan" literally means "green lake", referring to where the Xindian River widens to form the lake. There is a well-known suspension bridge that is used only by pedestrians.
