Pamplin City is a town in Appomattox and Prince Edward counties in the U.S. state of Virginia. The population was 219 at the 2010 census. The Appomattox County portion of Pamplin City is part of the Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Pamplin is the home of a Clay Pipe Factory, formerly the largest clay pipe factory in the United States. It is located to the side of Business 460. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1980. The Buffalo Presbyterian Church was listed on the NRHP in 1995. This town was a stop on the Southside Railroad in the mid-nineteenth Century. This became the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad in 1870 and then a line in the Norfolk and Western Railway and now the Norfolk Southern Railway. Rushton "Rocky" Pamplin (born August 3, 1949) is an American former college football player and model who was employed as a bodyguard and caretaker for the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson from 1977 to 1979. He was also the Playgirl cover and centerfold model for the May 1976 issue. Background Pamplin was born in Youngstown, Ohio. In the 1960s, he attended Newark High School, in Newark, California. He attended the University of Oregon and the University of Hawaii, where he played college football as a running back. He was drafted in 1971 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints, chosen 5th in the 10th round (239th overall), but did not play in an NFL game, being cut in preseason. Despite reports to the contrary, there is no evidence that Pamplin later played for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes, as his name appears nowhere on their rosters for the relevant period. William Pamplin
William Pamplin (5 August 1806 – 9 September 1899) was an English bookseller, publisher and botanist. Hunneman introduced many non-native European plants to the United Kingdom. Born in 1806 in Chelsea, Pamplin was the son of William Pamplin (1768–1844), a nurseryman. Pamplin wrote for the ''Magazine of Natural History'', and became editor of ''The Phytologist'', owned by John Hunneman. Pamplin married his daughter Caroline, and took over the magazine. The Pamplin Media Group (PMG) is a media conglomerate owned by Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. and operating primarily in the Portland metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of 2019, the company owns 25 newspapers and employs 200 people. History The ''Portland Tribune'' newspaper, founded by Pamplin in 2001, is the largest newspaper in the group. PMG also includes a group of newspapers formerly known as Community Newspapers, Incorporated, serving the Portland area. Most of them are published once a week. Pamplin Music was an independent Christian record label founded in 1995 by Robert B. Pamplin Jr. The label was a subunit of Pamplin Entertainment and in turn Pamplin Communications, which was already established in the Christian media market through book stores and video products. Pamplin Music reported turning a profit in 1999 as well as being in the top five Christian music record labels. Despite this, Pamplin closed at the end of 2001, shuttering both its production and distribution operations. Pamplin focused on the pop, soft rock, and R&B market segments. For other segments, they used sublabels. Red Hill Records, established in 2000 with A&R handled by Dan Michaels (according to ''Billboard''), focused on electronic and pop music, and was generally aimed at the youth market. The R.B. Pamplin College of Business (commonly known as Pamplin College of Business or Pamplin), is Virginia Tech's business school. Founded in 1965, it has more than 41,000 alumni. The current Dean is Robert Sumichrast. In 1986 the college was renamed following a donation from alumnus Robert B. Pamplin and his son Robert B.
