Pamela Oei
Pamela Oei (born 26 January 1972) is a Singaporean actress. Oei is a theatre actress. Background Oei is part of the cabaret trio Dim Sum Dollies. She is also a certified Allen Carr therapist. Film roles Oei played the part of Peggy in the 1998 comedy romance ''Peggy Su!'' which was about a 19-year-old Chinese woman living in Liverpool, England in the early 1960s. Personal life Oei is married to the Singaporean writer-director and filmmaker Ken Kwek Ken Kwek (born 7 May 1979) is a Singaporean screenwriter, director, playwright and author. Ken Kwek (born 7 May 1979) is a Singaporean screenwriter, director, playwright and author. His short film compendium, ''Sex.Violence.FamilyValues'', was banned by the Singapore and Malaysian governments in 2012. His first feature film ''Unlucky Plaza'' premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. His second feature ''LookAtMe, #LookAtMe'' premiered at the New York Asian Film Festival in 2022, to critical acclaim. Dim Sum Dollies
The Dim Sum Dollies is a musical cabaret trio group in Singapore, founded in 2002 by Selena Tan, Emma Yong and Pamela Oei. The Dollies are known for their loud and colourful costumes, spectacular dance scenes and their comical but incisive approach to contemporary social issues in Singapore. Denise Tan completed the trio after the death of Emma Yong in 2012; however she left the Dollies in 2016 to focus on radio hosting and replaced by Jo Tan. Allen Carr
Allen John Carr (2 September 1934 – 29 November 2006) was a British author of books about stopping smoking and other psychological dependencies including alcohol addiction. Biography Born in Putney, London, Carr started smoking cigarettes while doing National Service aged 18. He qualified as an accountant in 1958. Carr finally stopped smoking on 15 July 1983, aged 48, after a visit to a hypnotherapist. However, it wasn't the hypnotherapy itself that enabled him to stop – "I succeeded in spite of and not because of that visit" and "I lit up the moment I left the clinic and made my way home...". There were two key pieces of information that enabled Carr to stop later that day. First, the hypnotherapist told him smoking was "just nicotine addiction", which Carr had never perceived before that moment, i.e. that he was an addict. ''Peggy Su!'' is a 1998 film written by Anglo-Chinese playwright Kevin Wong, directed by Frances-Anne Solomon and starring Pamela Oei. His own experience and background being the son of Chinese immigrants working in the laundry business was used. It was directed by Trinidadian Frances-Anne Solomon who had previously worked on ''What My Mother Told Me'' in 1994 and ''Bideshi'' in 1996. About the film This romantic comedy set in Liverpool in 1962.
