Pamela K. Anderson
Pamela K. Anderson was the Director General of the International Potato Center, or CIP (''Centro Internacional de la Papa'') 2004–2013. Anderson holds a D.Sc. in Populations Sciences/Vector Entomology from the Harvard University School of Public Health as well as two master's degrees in entomology and human ecology. She assumed the Directorship of CIP in 2004 from Dr. Hubert Zandstra, who had led the Center since 1991. She joined CIP in 2002, and has worked in Latin America on food supply issues for 25 years. She was previously the organization's deputy director of general research. She became a member of the Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) in 2016, appointed under then-President Barack Obama. Board For International Food And Agricultural Development (BIFAD)
The Board for International Food and Agricultural Development (BIFAD) advises the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on issues concerning agriculture, Higher Education in developing countries, and food insecurity. BIFAD was established by Title XII of the Foreign Assistance Act, and both the BIFAD board and Title XII recognize the critical role of U.S. land-grant institutions in food and agricultural security, domestically and abroad. BIFAD consists of seven board members appointed by the White House, four of which must come from the US Academic community. The board's mission is to draw on higher education's expertise and scientific knowledge to advise the U.S. international assistance efforts along with domestic efforts to end food insecurity. The year 2008 was declared the International Year of the Potato by the United Nations, noting that the potato is a staple food in the diet of the world's population, and affirming the need to focus world attention on the role that the potato can play in providing food security and eradicating poverty. Food and Agriculture Organization was invited to facilitate its implementation. The corresponding resolution adopted on 25 November 2005 by the Food and Agriculture Organization, which was to facilitate the implementation of the year, affirmed "the need to revive public awareness of the relationship that exists between poverty, food security, malnutrition and the potential contribution of the potato to defeating hunger." Heifer International (also known as Heifer Project International) is a global nonprofit working to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development.
