Pambis Kyritsis
Pambis Kyritsis (born 17 June 1958; el, Πάμπης Κυρίτσης) is a Cypriot trade union leader and former politician. Born in Larnaca, Kyritsis studied at the University of Macedonia, where he was active in the student movement, and also co-ordinated supporters of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) in Greece. From 1990 to 1992, he was the general secretary of the United Democratic Youth Organisation. He then joined the executive council of AKEL, heading its local government section. In 1995, he became executive secretary of the Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO), and then in 1999 its general secretary. At the 2006 Cypriot legislative election, Kyritsis was elected in Larnaca for AKEL. There, he chaired the Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Insurance. Larnaca
Larnaca ( el, Λάρνακα ; tr, Larnaka) is a city on the south east coast of Cyprus and the capital of the district of the same name. The United Democratic Youth Organisation (Greek: Ενιαία Δημοκρατική Οργάνωση Νεολαίας), commonly referred to by its transliterated initials EDON, is the youth wing of the Progressive Party of Working People (transliterated initials AKEL), a communist political party in Cyprus. Pancyprian Federation Of Labour
PEO, the Pancyprian Federation of Labour ( el, Παγκύπρια Εργατική Ομοσπονδία, tr, Tüm Kıbrıs İşçi Federasyonu), is an umbrella organization for trade unions in Cyprus, which evolved from PSE ( el, Παγκύπρια Συντεχνιακή Επιτροπή). It was instrumental in the 1948 strikes in the mines of the Cyprus Mines Corporation and has been closely related to AKEL. 2011 Cypriot Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Cyprus on 22 May 2011 to elect the 56 Members of the House of Representatives. They were won by the Democratic Rally, who increased their seats from 18 to 20. The governing Progressive Party of Working People also gained a seat, bringing them up to 19. The Democratic Party lost two of their 11 seats and the European Party lost one of their three seats. The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) is an international federation of trade unions established in 1945. Founded in the immediate aftermath of World War Two, the organization built on the pre-war legacy of the International Federation of Trade Unions as a single structure for trade unions world-wide. With the emergence of the Cold War in the late 1940s, the WFTU splintered, with most trade unions from the Western-aligned countries leaving and creating the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) in 1949. George Mavrikos (born 1950) is the General Secretary of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) in Athens, Greece. He is a leading member of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), and former member of Greek parliament. He is largely credited for having led the successful efforts to halt the decline of the World Federation of Trade Unions since the fall of the Soviet Union.
