Palmyra, Illinois
Palmyra is a village in Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. The population was 698 at the 2010 census. History The first home in the Palmyra area was a log cabin built in 1835 by William Owens. The town originally was named Newburg, then changed to Cummington and finally was platted as Palmyra in 1855. Palmyra High School was established in 1892. It closed in 1948 as it combined with three other small towns. Landmarks Palmyra Opera House In November 1902, Clarence Grimett bought a half interest in land and a building at the corner of Main and State streets in Palmyra, Illinois, where Joseph Waters later joined him in operating a general store. In about 1905, they built a basement oven, hired a baker, and began selling baked goods. After they opened a second-floor theater for presentation of plays and touring performers, the entire establishment became known as the Palmyra Opera House. Marion County, Missouri
Marion County is a county located in the northeastern portion of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 28,781. Its county seat is Palmyra. Unique from most third-class counties in the state, Marion has two county courthouses, the second located in Hannibal. The county was organized on December 23, 1826 and named for General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox," who was from South Carolina and served in the American Revolutionary War. The area was known as the "Two Rivers Country" before organization. Marion County is part of the Hannibal, Missouri Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Quincy-Hannibal, IL-MO Combined Statistical Area. Palmyra High School is a six-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in seventh through twelfth grades from Palmyra in Burlington County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Palmyra Public Schools. High school classes began shortly after the completion of the Spring Garden Street School in 1895; this building is on the National Register of Historic Places.Cooper, et al., ''Life on the Delaware - A History of Palmyra, New Jersey'' 1976. With increased enrollment, the school was moved to a former girls school, Berkeley Hall, in 1907, and to its own building in 1909. A large addition was completed in 1922. Palmyra-Macedon High School, known as "Pal-Mac", is a public high school located on the border of Palmyra and Macedon, New York, United States. It is part of the Palmyra-Macedon Central School District which serves the towns of Palmyra and Macedon. The principal is Andrew Wahl. The school colors are red and white. Palmyra Area Senior High School (typically referred to as Palmyra High School or PHS) is a midsized public high school located in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is part of the Palmyra Area School District. The school is located at 1125 Park Drive in North Londonderry Township and serves students from the western part of Lebanon County, Pennsylvania and includes: Palmyra, North Londonderry Township, South Londonderry Township, the villages of Campbelltown, Lawn, Colebrook, and Mount Gretna.
