Palm Vx
The Palm Vx was a personal digital assistant made by the Palm Computing division of 3Com. It benefited from the sleek design and low weight of its predecessor, the Palm V, while increasing the available storage to 8 MB. At 114 grams, it was one of the lightest models ever offered by Palm. Retail price at launch was US$399. Soon after the release of the Vx, Palm Computing was spun off to form Palm, Inc. As a result, later-production Palm Vx units were the first Palm devices to no longer carry "3Com" branding. Features The Vx is based on the Palm V design, with the primary difference between the two being the Vx's 8 megabytes of RAM compared to the V's 2 megabytes. Palm V is a personal digital assistant (PDA) by 3Com. Released in 1999 by 3Com, the PDA has an aluminum enclosure containing a Dragonball EZ central processing unit (capable of overclocking to 39 MHz) and 2MB of computer memory, memory. The 16-shade grayscale display has a backlight and increased resolution from the previous-generation Palm III. Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor's DragonBall, or MC68328, is a microcontroller design based on the famous 68000 core, but implemented as an all-in-one low-power system for handheld computer use. AvantGo was a technology company focused on bringing a full W3C-compliant browser experience to intermittently-connected mobile devices such as the personal digital assistants (PDAs) and extremely early smartphones of that time period. Their browser could work with a live internet connection, but their core technology was the ability to sync web pages (including forms and Javascript) to the device, allow the user to interact with them even while off-line, and then forward any results (primarily HTTP POST messages) the next time the device synced. Palm, Inc. was an American company that specialized in manufacturing personal digital assistants (PDAs) and various other electronics. They were the designer of the PalmPilot, the first PDA successfully marketed worldwide, as well as the Treo 600, one of the first smartphones.
