Palm Beach (film)
''Palm Beach'' is a 1980 Australian drama film directed by Albie Thoms. The stories involving surfing and drugs are followed in Sydney during two days. Thoms was nominated for an AFI award for Best Original Screenplay for the film. Albie Thoms
Albie Thoms (28 July 1941 – 28 November 2012) was an Australian film director, writer, and producer. He was born in Sydney, Australia. He was nominated for at the 1979 AFI Awards for Best Original Screenplay for Palm Beach. He is best known for his work with Ubu Films Ubu Films was an experimental film-making collective based in Sydney that operated from 1965 to around 1970. It was formed by Albie Thoms, David Perry,Mudie, Peter ''Albie Thoms–David Perry: Selected filmwork (1964–1992); Dialogues (1994)'' ..., the Sydney Filmmakers’ Co-operative, and the Yellow House. He made a number of short films. He died on 28 November 2012. Nat Young
Robert Harold "Nat" Young (born 14 November 1947) is an Australian surfer and author. Surfing career Born in Sydney, New South Wales, Young grew up in the small coastal suburb of Collaroy. In 1964, he was runner-up in the Australian junior championship at Manly, and two years later was named world surfing champion in 1966. He won the title again (then called the Smirnoff World Pro/Am) in 1970. Young won three Australian titles in 1966, 1967 and 1969, and won the Bells Beach Surf Classic three times. Young featured in a number of important surf films of 1960s and 1970s including the classic 1973 surf movie ''Crystal Voyager'' and he also had a featured role as surfer Nick Naylor in the 1979 Australian drama film '' Palm Beach''. David Stratton
David James Stratton (born 10 September 1939) is an English-Australian award-winning film critic, as both a journalist and interviewer, film historian and lecturer and television personality and producer. Life and career Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England, in 1939, Stratton was sent to Hampshire to see out the war years with his grandmother, an avid filmgoer, where he was taken to the local cinemas regularly and saw a diverse range of movies. He attended Chafyn Grove School from 1948 to 1953 as a boarder. He saw his first foreign film at Bath in 1955—Italian romantic comedy ''Bread, Love and Dreams''. That was soon followed by Akira Kurosawa's Japanese adventure drama classic ''Seven Samurai'' tracked down in Birmingham. At the age of 19, he founded the Melksham and District Film Society.
