Palestinian Salvadorans ( ar, فلسطينيو السلفادور) are Salvadoran citizens of Palestinian descent or Palestine-born people residing in El Salvador. There are approximately 100,000 Salvadorans with Palestinian ancestry. The Palestinian community in El Salvador is the second largest in Latin America. The first Palestinians arrived in the late 19th, but they continued to arrive in the early 20th century, during the Arab/Israeli war in 1948, thousands of Palestinians arrived in El Salvador. History Palestinians, mostly from Bethlehem, but also from Jerusalem, came to El Salvador during the early 20th century. Antonio Saca
Elías Antonio "Tony" Saca González (born 9 March 1965) is a El Salvador, Salvadoran politician who was President of El Salvador from 1 June 2004 to 1 June 2009. He is currently serving a minimum 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. Early life Born in Santa Elena, Usulutan, Saca is of Palestinian people, Palestinian descent on his father's side, from a family of Palestinian Christians, Catholic immigrants who arrived in El Salvador in the early 20th century from the town of Bethlehem. Saca's Muslim maternal grandfather, Musa Ali Saleh, changed his name to Moises Gonzalez. Saca's maternal side is the Flores family. The Nationalist Republican Alliance ( es, Alianza Republicana Nacionalista, ARENA) is a conservative, right-wing political party of El Salvador. It was founded on 30 September 1981 by retired Salvadoran Army Major Roberto D'Aubuisson. It defines itself as a political institution constituted to defend the democratic, republican, and representative system of government, the social market economy system and nationalism. ARENA controlled the National Assembly of El Salvador until 1985, and its party leader Alfredo Cristiani was elected to the presidency in 1989. ARENA controlled the presidency from 1989 until 2009. Group Megavisión is a Salvadoran broadcasting company that operates three television channels and more than twenty national radio stations. It was founded by Óscar Antonio Safie. It began with the creation of the news service, Channel 21, in 1994. Later Channel 19 targeted a female audience. In 2001, Group Megavisión created its third channel, Channel 15, named ESTV, "Salvadoran Television". In 2007, Channel 15 was shuttered after struggling to build an audience.
