Palatka High School
Palatka High School is a public high school located in Palatka, Florida, operated by the Putnam County School Board. The school was established 1977 after merging two existing schools - Palatka Central and Palatka South. The campus has completed several renovation projects with science labs, new classrooms, a performing arts area, and office areas. Palatka High School serves the Palatka and East Palatka areas. Current student enrollment is about 1,400, drawing students from Jenkins Middle School. Students attend 7 classes per day, taking a wide variety of courses, including dual enrollment courses at St. Johns River State College. PHS offers Honors and AP courses and a variety of elective classes including Art and Journalism. Florida Virtual School is also an option for students. Palatka () is a city in northeastern Florida and it is the county seat of Putnam County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,558 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Putnam County. Palatka is the principal city of the Palatka Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is home to 72,893 residents. The city is also home to St. Johns River State College, St. Johns River Water Management District Headquarters, and Ravine Gardens State Park. Charles Harlin "Rabbit" Smith (March 13, 1924 – December 10, 2013) was an American football back who played one season with the Chicago Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in the 16th round of the 1947 NFL draft. He played college football at the University of Georgia and attended Palatka High School in Palatka, Florida. He was nicknamed Rabbit for his speed. Early years Smith played high school football as a two-way back at Palatka High School.
