Palapag, Northern Samar
Palapag, officially the Municipality of Palapag ( war, Bungto han Palapag; tl, Bayan ng Palapag), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 34,034 people. It is located in the northernmost part of Samar Island. Etymology The name Palapag, according to locals is derived from the word “''Palpag''” (in the Waray-Waray language it means ‘pounding a post using a wooden stick’ or pulping the bark of a bakhao). The first group of Spaniards who came to Palapag, as they did not know the name of the place, they asked in Spanish language to a group of people pulping the bark of a bakhao tree about the name of the place. They thought that they were asked what they were doing, so they answered in vernacular language “''nagpapalpag''”, which means pulping the bark of a tree. Pinsker's Hawk-eagle
Pinsker's hawk-eagle (''Nisaetus pinskeri''), south Philippine hawk-eagle or Mindanao hawk-eagle, is a species of bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is endemic to the Philippines native to the islands of Leyte, Samar, Negros, Basilan, Bohol and Mindanao. It is found in primary moist lowland forest and tropical moist montane forest up to 1,900 m. It is threatened by habitat loss and hunting. IUCN estimates just 600–800 mature birds left. Description It is most closely related to the Philippine hawk-eagle (''Nisaetus philipensis'') with some taxonomists still considering it a subspecies, and Changeable hawk-eagle (''Nisaetus cirrhatus'') and hawk eagle species which is commonly distributed in Southeast Asia. Tinago
Dapdap, also known as Tinago, is a barangay in the municipality of Tarangnan, Samar in the Philippines. The barangay is home to the San Francisco de Asis Church, a 16th-century church ruins located atop a hill. The Old Church of Tinago Built in 16th century upon the arrival of the three Jesuit missionaries, Francisco De Otazo, SJ, Bartolome Martes, SJ, and Domingo Alonzo, SJ, on October 15, 1596. Santiago de Vera was a native of Alcalá de Henares, Spain and the sixth Spanish governor of the Philippines, from May 16, 1584, until May 1590. Governorship Governor Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñalosa and Domingo de Salazar, the first bishop of Manila, had requested the King of Spain to establish the Supreme Court of the Philippines then called the ''Audiencia'', to settle disputes between the Church and State. Waray (also known as Waray-Waray or Bisaya/Binisaya nga Winaray/Waray) is an Austronesian language and the fifth-most-spoken native regional language of the Philippines, native to Eastern Visayas.
