Palaichori
Palaichori () is a settlement in the Nicosia District of Cyprus. It comprises two villages, ''Palaichori Oreinis'' and ''Palaichori Morphou'', separated by the Serrache River. The villages stand at an altitude of 930 m. History, churches and monuments Palaichori was first mentioned in 13th century documents. It is believed that Knights Templar got village from King of Cyprus Henry II of Jerusalem. The church ''Panagia Chrysopantanassa'' is built in 16. century. Frescoes are influenced by both western and Byzantine styles. Palaichori Oreinis () is a village located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus on the E 903 road. The village stands at an altitude of 930 m. Palaichori Oreinis is separated by Palaichori Morphou by the Serrache River. The two villages are known collectively as Palaichori. Michalis Karaolis
Michalis Karaolis ( el, Μιχαλάκης Καραολής; 13 February 1933 – 10 May 1956) was a Cypriot public official and revolutionary. Born in the village of Palaichori Oreinis of Pitsilia, Karaolis worked as a government clerk and a member of EOKA. He was the first to be sentenced to death and hanged alongside Andreas Dimitriou on 10 May 1956. Life and work Michalis Karaolis was born on 13 February 1933 in Palaichori Oreinis, Cyprus. He finished primary school in Palaichori and The English School in Nicosia. He worked as a tax clerk. During the 1955–59 national uprising against the British, many of APOEL's athletes and members of the club were active members of EOKA (the National Organisation of Cypriot Fighters). Polycarpos Georgadjis
Polykarpos Giorkatzis ( el, Πολύκαρπος Γιωρκάτζης (); 5 July 1932 – 15 March 1970) was a Greek Cypriot politician. He served as the first Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus. He also served as provisional minister of Labour in the period leading to Cyprus being proclaimed an independent state. Before entering the political stage he fought for EOKA. His political career evolved from a staunch supporter of Makarios to becoming one of the archbishop's principal political rivals. He was assassinated in 1970. EOKA years Giorkatzis joined the ranks of EOKA, the Greek Cypriot organization fighting against British rule in Cyprus, in his twenties and assumed the nom de guerre ''Laertes''. Nicosia District (Greek: Eπαρχία Λευκωσίας) is one of the six districts of Cyprus. Its main town is the island country's capital city, Nicosia. The TRNC-controlled northern part of the district is the Lefkoşa District of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Michael Herodotou Zampelas (19 March 1937 – 15 May 2019) was a Cypriot businessman, politician and philanthropist. Career Michael Zampelas, a Cypriot by birth was educated in the United Kingdom and became a Chartered Accountant in 1965. In 1970, together with his associates, he established Coopers & Lybrand an accounting and consulting firm in Cyprus and Athens, thus opening new horizons for the development of the accounting profession in Cyprus and Greece. As a result of a merger in 1998 the firm was renamed PricewaterhouseCoopers. He served as an elected member of the board of the European Organisation of Coopers & Lybrand Europe (1991-1999).
