Paku Language
S’gaw, S'gaw Karen, or S’gaw K’Nyaw, commonly known as Karen, is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken by the S'gaw Karen people of Myanmar and Thailand. A Karenic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family, S'gaw Karen is spoken by over 2 million people in Tanintharyi Region, Ayeyarwady Region, Yangon Region, and Bago Region in Myanmar, and about 1 million in northern and western Thailand along the border near Kayin State. It is written using the S'gaw Karen alphabet, derived from the Burmese script, although a Latin-based script is also in use among the S'gaw Karen in northwestern Thailand. Various divergent dialects are sometimes seen as separate languages: Paku in the northeast, Mopwa (Mobwa) in the northwest, Wewew, and Monnepwa. Paku (Bakau) is an Austronesian language spoken in four villages in the East Barito Regency of Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia. The Duchy of Pakualaman ( jv, ꦏꦢꦶꦥꦠꦺꦤ꧀ꦦꦏꦸꦮꦭꦩ꧀ꦩꦤ꧀, Kadipatèn Pakualaman; also written Paku Alaman; Dutch-spelling: Pakoe-alaman) is a minor Javanese princely state within the Sultanate of Yogyakarta.} It was created in 1812 when Natakusuma (later Duke Paku Alam I) was rewarded for helping the British quell the conflict in Yogyakarta in June 1812. It became the mirror-image of Mangkunegaran in the territory of the Surakarta Sunanate. A Pakualaman Corps of 100 cavalry (later 50 cavalry and 100 infantry) was established, but was never to become as significant as the Mangkunegaran Legion, and disbanded in 1892. Shannon Paku (born 23 September 1980) is a former New Zealand rugby union player. He notably played for the Hurricanes in the Super 14 competition, and for the Wellington Lions in the Air New Zealand Cup. Considered a utility back, Paku covered the wing, centre and the fullback positions. Career Paku started his career representing Wairarapa Bush and had also played for the Manawatu Under-16s and Secondary School teams. He played for the Wellington province between 2000 and 2008. In 2003, he was signed to the Blues. He returned to Wellington and to play for the Hurricanes for the 2004 season. Paku joined French club US Montauban for the 2008–2009 season. Paku Karen Baptist Association, also known as Paku Kayin Baptist Association is a Baptist Christian denomination in Myanmar. It is affiliated with the Karen Baptist Convention. History It was founded in 1856 by the American Baptist Mission. With the departure of American Baptist missionaries from Myanmar, the association has been entirely staffed by nationals. After the PKBA reconstituted, the first executive secretary was Rev Letta. Now, PKBA has 150 churches. PKBA headquarters are in Taungoo, Bago Division.
