Paksas Cabinet I
The First Paksas Cabinet was the 9th cabinet of Lithuania since 1990. It consisted of the Prime Minister and 14 government ministers. History Rolandas Paksas of the Homeland Union was appointed the Prime Minister by President Valdas Adamkus on 1 June 1999, after the resignation of the preceding Vagnorius Cabinet. The government received its mandate and started its work on 10 June 1999, after the Seimas gave assent to its program. The government served for less than five months before it was brought down by disagreements over privatization. Rolandas Paksas
Rolandas Paksas (; born 10 June 1956) is a Lithuanian politician who was the sixth President of Lithuania from 2003 to 2004. He was previously Prime Minister of Lithuania in 1999 and again from 2000 to 2001, and he also served as Mayor of Vilnius from 1997 to 1999 and again from 2000 to 2001. He led Order and Justice from 2004 to 2016 and was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2019. A national aerobatics champion in the 1980s, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Paksas founded a construction company, Restako. In 1997, he was elected to Vilnius City Council for the centre-right Homeland Union and became mayor. In May 1999, Paksas was appointed Prime Minister, but resigned five months later after a disagreement over privatisation. Paksas joined the Liberal Union of Lithuania (LLS) in 2000. Algirdas Saudargas (born April 17, 1948) is a Lithuanian politician and the signatory of the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania. Eugenijus Maldeikis (born 27 August 1958, in Anykščiai) is a Lithuanian politician. Maldeikis served twice as Lithuanian Minister of Economy, during Paksas Cabinet I in 1999, and as part of Paksas Cabinet II from 2000 to 2001. His second stint as economics minister overlapped with his tenure on the Eighth Seimas of Lithuania which began in 2000. From 2003, the Seimas appointed Maldeikis a Lithuanian observer to the European Union. After the death of Rolandas Pavilionis, Maldeikis replaced him as a member of the European Parliament from 18 May 2006 until 2009. While serving on the European Parliament, Maldeikis represented the Lithuanian Liberal Democratic Party within the Union for Europe of the Nations parliamentary group.
