Pakistan Fed Cup Team
The Pakistan Billie Jean King/Fed Cup team represents Pakistan in Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) tennis competition and are governed by the Pakistan Tennis Federation. History Pakistan competed in its first Fed Cup in 1997 Fed Cup, 1997. Their best result was finishing third in Group II in 1999 Fed Cup, 1999. Fed Cup 2011 Pakistan re-entered the Fed Cup in 2011 for the first time since 2000 Fed Cup, 2000. Pakistan finished sixth in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II and was represented in 2011 Fed Cup, 2011 by its top players Sara Mahboob, Saba Aziz, Sara Mansoor and Ushna Suhail. Fed Cup 2012 In 2012 Pakistan competed in Asia/Oceania Zone Group II played in Shenzhen, China from 30 January - 4 February. The Pakistan men's national tennis team represent Pakistan in Davis Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Pakistan Tennis Federation. The Billie Jean King Cup (or the BJK Cup) is the premier international team competition in women's tennis, launched as the Federation Cup in 1963 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The name was changed to the Fed Cup in 1995, and changed again in September 2020 in honor of former World No. 1 Billie Jean King. The Billie Jean King Cup is the world's largest annual women's international team sports competition in terms of the number of nations that compete. The current Chairperson is Katrina Adams. The Czech Republic dominated the BJK Cup in the 2010s, winning six of ten competitions in the decade. Nida Waseem (born 1 November 1982, Karachi) is a former tennis player from Pakistan. Background Waseem was born in Karachi. She started playing tennis when she was about 7 and continued with as she enjoyed the sport. Her parents encouraged and supported her. She earned her bachelor's degree from Boston College, Boston, United States and her law degree from the UK. Career She was once the Pakistan's youngest national champion and was a dominant force on the national scene during her teenage years. At an International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior ranking event, held in Islamabad in 2000, she beat the Indian player, Sania Mirza. As a junior, she was in the top 10 players in Asia. Sarah Mahboob Khan (born 9 February 1991) is a Pakistani tennis player. Playing for Pakistan at the Fed Cup, Mahboob Khan has a win–loss of 2–8. Career Sarah Mahboob Khan was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Her father Mahboob is a tennis coach. In 2004, Sarah Mahboob Khan became the youngest ever Pakistan National Champion, aged 14. She has been Pakistan's leading tennis player since 2005.
