Pak Wai () is a village in the Hebe Haven area of Sai Kung District, Hong Kong. It is located along Hiram's Highway, next to the Marina Cove housing development. Hebe Haven
Hebe Haven, also known as Pak Sha Wan (), is a harbour on the south shore of Sai Kung Peninsula in Hong Kong. The harbour has one opening to Port Shelter in its south. The Pak Sha Wan Peninsula, spanning south from Tsiu Hang () hugs the Hebe Haven and separates it from Inner Port Shelter (Sai Kung Hoi). Villages are established along its shores. The haven is an excellent natural harbour for yachts and boats and is home to a number of yacht clubs, including the Shelter Cove yacht club (part of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club), and Hebe Haven Yacht Club. There is also a Sea Scouting activity centre situated by the haven. There are numerous moorings and many boats distributed around the area along with a clearly marked navigational channel. Sai Kung District
Sai Kung District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China. The district comprises the southern half of the Sai Kung Peninsula, the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the New Territories and a strip of land to the east of Kowloon. Areas in the district include Sai Kung Town, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, Tseung Kwan O and over 70 islands of different sizes. Hiram's Highway
Hiram's Highway () is a road in Hong Kong connecting the town of Sai Kung to the Clear Water Bay Road at Ta Ku Ling. It also connects with Po Tung Road in the north. Unlike other roads in Hong Kong with the word "Highway" as part of their names, the Hiram's Highway is not an expressway. The road's Chinese name literally means "Sai Kung Highway". It earned its English name from the officer in charge of the Royal Marines who upgraded a Japanese track in the immediate post Second World War years. Major John Wynne-Potts CBE was nicknamed Hiram because he shared the name "Potts" with the "Hiram K. Potts" American brand of tinned sausages. An embellishment of the story suggests he was "addicted" to the sausages. Japanese prisoners of war were deployed in the road's construction. New Territories
The New Territories is one of the three main regions of Hong Kong, alongside Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It makes up 86.2% of Hong Kong's territory, and contains around half of the population of Hong Kong. Small House Policy
The Small House Policy (SHP, ) was introduced in 1972 in Hong Kong. The objective was to improve the then prevailing low standard of housing in the rural areas of the New Territories. The Policy allows an indigenous male villager who is 18 years old and is descended through the male line from a resident in 1898 of a recognized village in the New Territories, an entitlement to one concessionary grant during his lifetime to build one house. The policy has generated debates and calls for amendments to be made. Simeone Volonteri () (June 6, 1831 – December 21,1904) was an Italian missionary and a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. Life Simeone Volonteri was born in Milan, Italy. He joined the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions in 1855. He was in Hong Kong from 1860 to February 1870. During his stay in Hong Kong, he worked extensively in Tai Wo and Ting Kok. (A previous version of this paper was presented at a Seminar 'Hong Kong: its people, culture and traditions, the Centre of Asian Studies, University of Hong Kong. 15-16 April 1983) He was ordained bishop in 1874 by Eustachio Zanoli. He was Vicar Apostolic of Southern Honan () (China) from August 28, 1882 to his death. He died in Fengqiao (), Shangqiu, in Henan province of China.
