Pak Kung Au (Islands)
Pak Kung Au (), also known as Tung Chung Gap, Tung Chung Au (), is a mountain pass along Tung Chung Road on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is located at the end of Stage 2 and the start of Stage 3 of the Lantau Trail, between Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak. B-HRX crash On 26 August 2003, the B-HRX, an EC 155 B1 helicopter from the Government Flying Service crashed at Pak Kung Au. The pilot and the aircrewman were fatally injured. A mountain pass is a navigable route through a mountain range or over a ridge. Tung Chung Road
Tung Chung Road () is a two disjointed-section road connecting the north and south coast of Lantau Island. Description The first section is a short road linking a former pier and Wong Nai Uk in Tung Chung. The second is a long and hilly section connecting Tung Chung in the island north to Cheung Sha in the island south. The two sections were previously connected until the completion of the replacement road, Chung Yan Road in Tung Chung New Town. The short section is featured with historical Tung Chung Battery, a military coastal defence in Ming dynasty. It runs along the a river Ma Wan Chung and ends in Chung Yan Road. The long section is a long, steep, narrow and winding road. Lantau Island (also Lantao Island, Lan Tao) is the largest island in Hong Kong, located West of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, and is part of the New Territories. Lantau Trail
The Lantau Trail (), opened on 4 December 1984, is a long-distance footpath on Lantau Island in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The trail is a loop starting and finishing in Mui Wo. It is the third longest trail in Hong Kong, after MacLehose Trail and Wilson Trail. The Lantau Trail has good visitor facilities along the way, and the route is well marked. There are information boards and maps at junctions between each stage. Distance posts around 500 metres apart help hikers know where they are. Sunset Peak or Tai Tung Shan ( Chinese: 大東山) is the third-highest peak in Hong Kong. It is situated on Lantau Island within Lantau South Country Park and Lantau North Country Park and stands at a height of above sea level. Lantau Peak
Lantau Peak or Fung Wong Shan (literally "Fenghuang, Phoenix Mountain") is the second highest peak in Hong Kong and the highest point on Lantau Island, with a height of above sea level. Name origin The mountain is actually made up of a pair of peaks, one is known as "Fung Shan" (male phoenix mountain) and the other is "Wong Shan" (female phoenix mountain), together they form "Fung Wong Shan". The Eurocopter EC155 (now Airbus Helicopters H155) is a long-range medium-lift passenger transport helicopter developed by Eurocopter from its Dauphin family for civil aviation use. It is a twin-engined aircraft and can carry up to 13 passengers along with 1 or 2 crew, depending on customer configuration. The Government Flying Service (GFS) is a disciplined unit and paramilitary flying organisation of the Government of Hong Kong. The service has its head office in, and operates from, the southwestern end of Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. Gallant Garden
Gallant Garden (), in Wo Hop Shek Public Cemetery at Wo Hop Shek, Hong Kong, was established in November 1996 for civil servants who lost their lives on duty. In 2000, permanent earth burial was extended to both civil servants and non-civil servants who died with exceptional bravery while on duty. It has an area of 1,600 m2 (17,200 ft²) and is currently maintained by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. It has 110 land burial spaces, 165 urn spaces, and a columbarium of 120 niches. There is also a large Buddhist-Taoist monastery built near the cemetery. The majority of those interred are police officers and firefighters fallen on duties, but several medical personnel who contracted and died from SARS while treating sufferers from the disease are also buried in the cemetery.
