Los Lagos Region
Los Lagos Region ( es, Región de Los Lagos , ''Region of the Lakes'') is one of Chile's 16 regions, which are first order administrative divisions, and comprises four provinces: Chiloé, Llanquihue, Osorno and Palena. The region contains the country's second largest island, Chiloé, and the second largest lake, Llanquihue. Its capital is Puerto Montt; other important cities include Osorno, Castro, Ancud, and Puerto Varas. The mainland portion of Los Lagos Region south of Reloncaví Sound (Palena Province) is considered part of Patagonia. Osorno Province ( es, Provincia de Osorno) is one of the four provinces in the southern Chilean region of Los Lagos (X). Puyehue, Chile
Puyehue () is a commune in Chile located in Osorno Province of Los Lagos Region. It is bordered to the south by Rupanco Lake, to the east by the Andes and Argentina, to the north by Puyehue Lake and to the west by Osorno commune. Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass that links the Los Lagos Region to Argentina lies in the eastern tip of the commune. The comune is administered by Entre Lagos, the main town in Puyehue. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Puyehue spans an area of and has 11,368 inhabitants (6,008 men and 5,360 women). Of these, 3,932 (34.6%) lived in urban areas and 7,436 (65.4%) in rural areas. The population grew by 1.4% (161 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. Chile Route 215
Route 215-CH is a branch line road going eastward from Osorno at Chile Highway 5 to Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass at the border to Argentina. Apart from connecting southern Chile with Argentina, the road is also the main access to Antillanca ski resort, Puyehue National Park and the hot springs of Puyehue and Aguas Calientes. Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass
Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass ( es, Paso Cardenal Antonio Samoré) is one of the main mountain passes through the southern Andes along the border between Argentina and Chile. Together with Paso Libertadores, it is one of the easiest of the Argentina-Chile passes, and one of the few with asphalted roads in the region. The main towns and cities respectively on both sides of the pass are Entre Lagos, Chile, Entre Lagos and Osorno, Chile, Osorno in Chile and Villa La Angostura and San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina. From the Chilean side the pass is accessed through Route 215-CH, branch line which begins at the Chile Highway 5, Panamerican Highway in Osorno. On the Argentinian side the pass is reached by Ruta Nacional 231.
