Painted Daughters
''Painted Daughters'' is a 1925 Australian silent film directed F. Stuart-Whyte. Only part of it survives today. Plot Mary Elliott and Courtland Nixon are dancing partners in a stage show called ''Florodora''. Mary leaves Courtland and marries a wealthy admirer, who soon goes bankrupt and kills himself, leaving Mary to raise their daughter, Maryon. Maryon grows up to become a dancer. A theatrical press agent, Ernest, reunites the cast of ''Floradora'' and Courtland is reunited with Mary. There is a fire in which both Mary and Courtland are injured, but they survive and decide to get married. So too do Maryon and Ernest. Florodora
''Florodora'' is an Edwardian musical comedy. After its long run in London, it became one of the first successful Broadway musicals of the 20th century. The book was written by Jimmy Davis under the pseudonym Owen Hall, the music was by Leslie Stuart with additional songs by Paul Rubens, and the lyrics were by Edward Boyd-Jones, George Arthurs and Rubens. The original London production opened in 1899 where it ran for a very successful 455 performances. The New York production, which opened the following year, was even more popular, running for 552 performances. After this, the piece was produced throughout the English-speaking world and beyond. The show was famous for its double sextet and its chorus line of "Florodora Girls". The piece was popular with amateur theatre groups, particularly in Britain, into the 1950s. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. ''Sunrise'' is a 1927 Australian silent film co-directed by Raymond Longford, who took over during filming. It was the second film from Australasian Films following their recommencement of production, after ''Painted Daughters''. It is considered a lost film. Plot George Willis loses his unfaithful wife in a rock fall and takes to the bush. He rescues a girl, Hope Stuart, from a flood and nurses her back to health. When he brings her back to her father he discovers that an old enemy, Arthur Greerson, has accused him of murder. Greerson is injured in a mining accident and after George rescues him, Greerson admits he has lied. George returns to his life as a recluse in the mountains, followed by Hope.
