Pai Airport
Pai Airport ( th, ท่าอากาศยานปาย) is an airport serving Pai, a town in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand. Originally constructed during World War II by the Japanese Imperial Army, the airport was deserted after the end of the war and was developed by the province in 1945 for civil aviation. Located on a 72.3-rai area around a kilometre away from Mueang Mae Hong Son, the capital district of the province, the airport has one runway (23 metres wide, 1,000 metres long) In early 2017, an expansion of the airport was considered by the government to increase tourism, but was ultimately denied after opposition from locals. Department Of Airports (Thailand)
The Department of Airports (DOA) ( th, กรมท่าอากาศยาน) is a Thai government department under the Ministry of Transport. It operates 28 civil airports throughout the country. The department was split off from the Department of Civil Aviation in 2015, part of a restructuring response to ICAO's downgrading of Thailand's aviation safety rating. The other agency that previously formed part of the old department is the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. Operations Only 17 DOA airports turned a profit between 2009 and 2016 while the total number of passengers jumped 25 percent. In 2018, DOA's revenues from its 28 airports was 853 million baht. Krabi airport alone contributed 469 million baht. Udon Thani is also in the black, with profits reaching 100 million baht a year. Pai, Thailand
Pai ( th, ปาย, Burmese: ပါယ်) is a small town in northern Thailand's Mae Hong Son Province, near the Myanmar border, about 146 km (91 mi) northwest of Chiang Mai on the northern route to Mae Hong Son. It lies on the Pai River. The town has ''thesaban tambon'' status and covers parts of the ''tambon'' Wiang Tai of Pai District. As of 2006, it had a population of 2,284. Access Pai is on Route 1095, which connects Mae Hong Son with Chiang Mai. Pai Airport, which had been decommissioned for 20 years, was paved and refurbished in 2005-2006, and on 1 February 2007, Siam General Aviation began daily passenger service to and from Chiang Mai International Airport which lasted until 2014. Later, until 2017, Kan Air operated the same route using a Cessna 208. Both airlines went out of business. The was the official ground-based armed force of the Empire of Japan from 1868 to 1945. A ''rai'' ( th, ไร่, ) is a unit of area equal to 1,600 square metres (16 ares, 0.16 hectares, 0.3954 acres), and is used in measuring land area for a cadastre or cadastral map. Its current size is precisely derived from the metre, but is neither part of nor recognized by the modern metric system, the International System (SI). The rai is defined as 1 square ''sen'' or (40 m × 40 m). It can be divided in four ''ngaan'' or 400 square '' wa''. It is commonly used in Thailand. Kannithi Aviation Co. Ltd, operated as Kan Air, was a small airline with its hub at Chiang Mai Airport. Kan Air operated charter and scheduled services in Thailand. As of September 2016, Kan Air flew nine routes. Flights from Chiang Mai were to Mae Hong Son, Pai, Nan, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Phitsanulok, Hua Hin, Chiang Rai, and U-Tapao. On 21 April 2017, Kan Air suspended all of its operations. History Kan Air, owned by Kannithi Aviation Company Limited, started operations on 24 September 2010. It was founded by Captain Somphong Sooksanguan as president and Mrs Saychon Sibmong as CEO. On 8 July 2015, the airline was forced to suspend five routes for lack of compliance with airline operating licenses. The Kan Air suspension was lifted a few months later. Wisdom Airways
Wisdom Airways was a regional airline operating in North-Western Thailand, with a base in Chiang Mai. On 1 October 2019, the airline ceased all operations permanently. History The airline sought to take over the routes of Kan Air after it went out of business. Although the airline employed the same pilots and operated the same routes as Kan Air, it denied any links to it. The airline began operations on 1 December 2017. On 1 October 2019, the airline announced on their official Facebook page that they would be suspending all operations until further notice.
