''Pagan Day'' (originally released as ''A Pagan Day (Pages From a Notebook)'') is a 1984 album by English experimental band Psychic TV. The cover photograph is of Caresse P-Orridge taken by Andrew Rawling. Recording All music was recorded on a 4-track cassette machine under the guidance of Alex Fergusson, an original co-founder of the group, with Genesis P-Orridge. ''A Pagan Day'' was subtitled ''Pages From a Notebook'' as the material was a sketch of the songs, revealing of the process itself. All songs were written by Genesis P-Orridge and Alex Ferguson, with the exception of "Translucent Carriages" written by Tom Rapp of the group Pearls Before Swine. "Cold Steel" is a demo version (with vocals by Fergusson) of "The Orchids", originally released on 1983's ''Dreams Less Sweet.'' Different arrangements of "We Kiss" and "Baby's Gone Away", and a completely rearranged "New Sexuality" with new lyrics (retitled "She Was Surprised") appeared on 1988's ''Allegory and Self.'' ... Allegory And Self
''Allegory and Self: Illustrations in Sound'' is an Vinyl record, LP released by Psychic TV in 1988 that comprises a varied selection of their work. Several versions have appeared, including the original picture disc (TOPY 035) and black vinyl (TOPY 038) versions in 1988 on Temple Records, Fundamental Records (SPIN 1006) and on pink marbled vinyl (666 copies). It has also appeared on CD in at least two versions, on Spin and Cleopatra (CLEO94912 - with 3 bonus remixed tracks). It has also been reissued in Russia. The cover graphics feature Austin Osman Spare's ''General Allegory'' and other illustrations from his ''Automatic Drawings'' and ''Book Of Satyrs''. In the original release there was included a book of what seems to be Genesis P-Orridge, P-Orridge's own Book of Satyrs, with very Spare-ish pen-and-ink drawings and illuminations and key lyrics, handwritten. Rough Trade (shops)
Rough Trade is a group of independent record shops in the United Kingdom and the United States with headquarters in London. The first Rough Trade shop was opened in 1976 by Geoff Travis in the Ladbroke Grove district of West London. Travis reportedly took the name from the Canadian art punk/ new wave band Rough Trade. In 1978, the shop spawned Rough Trade Records, which became the label of bands from The Smiths to The Libertines. In 1982, the two separated and the shop remains an independent entity from the label, although links between the two are strong. At the same time, the shop moved from its original location on Kensington Park Road round the corner to Talbot Road. In 1988, a shop opened in Neal's Yard, Covent Garden. ''Dreams Less Sweet'' is the second studio album by English experimental band Psychic TV, released in 1983. It was the last Psychic TV album to feature co-founder Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson. Recording The album was recorded using Zuccarelli Holophonics technology, a binaural recording system optimized for headphone listening also used by Pink Floyd on '' The Final Cut''. The band took advantage of the spatial effect (sometimes described as 3D) achieved by Holophonics to record in unusual locations like The Hellfire Club caves, Christ Church in Hampstead, and Caxton Hall. "Always Is Always" is the Charles Manson composition also known as "Always Is Always Forever" and "I'll Never Say No to Always". Pearls Before Swine (band)
Pearls Before Swine was an American psychedelic folk band formed by Tom Rapp in 1965 in Eau Gallie, now part of Melbourne, Florida. They released six albums between 1967 and 1971, before Rapp launched a solo career. Early years, 1965-68 With high school friends Wayne Harley (banjo, mandolin), Lane Lederer (bass, guitar) and Roger Crissinger (piano, organ), Rapp wrote and recorded some songs which, inspired by the Fugs, they sent to the avant-garde ESP-Disk label in New York. The group took its name from a Bible passage: "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine ...."
