Paek Sang-ho
Paek Sang-ho is a North Korean Colonel General. He has been an alternate member to the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea since 1993. He served on the 10th Supreme People's Assembly, from 1998 to 2003. Paek gained the rank of Colonel General in 2002, in a ceremony held on Kim Jong-il's birthday. Previously, he had been a Lieutenant General since 1992. Central Committee Of The Workers' Party Of Korea
The Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea ( ko, 조선로동당 중앙위원회) is the highest party body between national meetings of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), the ruling party of North Korea. According to WPK rules, the Central Committee is elected by the party congress and the party conference can be conferred the right to renew its membership composition. In practice, the Central Committee has the ability to dismiss and appoint new members without consulting with the wider party at its own plenary sessions. The 1st Central Committee was elected at the 1st WPK Congress in 1946. It was composed of 43 members. The numbers of Central Committee members have increased since then, with the 7th Congress in 2017 electing 235 members. The 10th Supreme People's Assembly (Chosongul: 최고인민회의 제10기) of North Korea was in session from 1998 until 2003. It consisted of 687 deputies, and held six sessions. The Supreme People's Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly known as North Korea. It consists of one deputy from each of the DPRK's 687 constituencies, elected to five-year terms. The constitution recognizes the Workers' Party as the leading party of the state. Kim Jong-il's Birthday
The Day of the Shining Star () is a public holiday in North Korea falling on 16 February, the anniversary of the birth of the country's second leader, Kim Jong-il. Along with the Day of the Sun, the birthday of his father Kim Il-sung, it is the most important public holiday in the country. Kim Jong-il was born in 1941 (Juche 30) in the Soviet Union, although North Korean propaganda says the date is 16 February 1942 (Juche 31) and places the birth at the Mount Paektu area in Korea. His birthday became an official holiday in 1982 when he began his work in the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea. He celebrated his birthdays privately.
