Padthaway, South Australia
Padthaway is a small town in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's south-east within the Limestone Coast region about south east of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-east of the municipal seat of Bordertown. The name is derived from the Potawurutj, the Aboriginal name word for ''cover'' or ''bury''. Padthaway is in the Tatiara District Council, the state electorate of MacKillop and the federal Division of Barker. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Padthaway had a population of 418 people. History Padthaway was the name of the original pastoral station which was established on Bodaruwitj Aboriginal lands in this area in 1847 by a successful Scottish businessman, Robert Lawson. In 1882 the Padthaway Estate Homestead was built by Eliza and Robert Lawson. The historic Padthaway Estate complex is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. Padthaway Conservation Park
__NOTOC__ Padthaway Conservation Park (formerly the Padthaway National Park) is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's south-east in the gazetted locality of Padthaway about south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the locality's town centre. The conservation park occupies land in section 136 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Parsons which is bounded by Beeama-Parsons Road to the south and by Padthaway Road to the north. The land originally gained protected area status in 1971, when section 136 was gazetted as the ''Padthaway National Park''. In 1972, the national park was renamed as the ''Padthaway Conservation Par''k upon the proclamation of the '' National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972''. As of March 2018, it covered an area of . The Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara Football League is an Australian rules football competition based in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. One unusual aspect of the league is that it includes clubs from both South Australia and Victoria. The 2018/19/20/21 league medalist was Darcy “Sauce” Boyanton. Potaruwutj
The Bodaruwitj, also rendered Bedaruwidj or Potaruwutj, and referred to in some early sources as the Tatiara, are an Aboriginal Australian people of the state of South Australia. David Horton believed they were the group his sources referred to as the Bindjali people. Austlang refers to Bindjali / Bodaruwitj as alternative names for the same language. Name ''Potaruwutj'' is an autonym, meaning in their language, "wandering" (-''wutj'' is a suffix meaning "man"), referring to their continuous shifting of their campsites throughout the mallee scrubland. Language The name of their language, or of the version spoken around the Padthaway district, was Yaran, though it is also now known as Bindjali. William Haynes, an earlier resident of the area, provided E.M.Curr with two distinct vocabularies of the area, which he designated as that of the Tatiara.
