Padma Cantonment
Sheikh Russel Cantonment is a Bangladeshi military cantonment near Padma Bridge in Munshiganj and Shariatpur Districts, Bangladesh. The cantonment has been named after Sheikh Russel, younger brother of Bangladesh Prime minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed. It has been established to ensure overall security of the bridge as it will be the main link of the highway connectivity between South Bengal and other parts of Bangladesh. Munshiganj ( bn, মুন্সীগঞ্জ), also historically known as Bikrampur, is a district in central Bangladesh. It is a part of the Dhaka Division and borders Dhaka District. Geography Total land area is 235974 acres (954 km2), out of which 138472 acres (560 km2) are cultivable and 5609 acres (23 km2) are fallow land. The Padma Multipurpose Bridge ( bn, পদ্মা বহুমুখী সেতু, Pôdma Bôhumukhī Setu), commonly known as the Padma Bridge ( bn, পদ্মা সেতু, Pôdma Setu), is a two-level road-rail bridge across the Padma River, the main distributary of the Ganges in Bangladesh. It connects Louhajang Upazila of Munshiganj and Zazira Upazila of Shariatpur and a small part of Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur, linking the less developed southwest of the country to the northern and eastern regions. Sheikh Russel
Sheikh Russel (October 18, 1964 – August 15, 1975) was the youngest child of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father and first President of Bangladesh. Russel and most of his direct family were killed in their home during the 1975 military coup. Early life Russel was born on October 18, 1964, at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladesh Infantry Regiment
The Bangladesh Infantry Regiment (BIR) is an infantry regiment ( regimental system type) of the Bangladesh Army. It was raised in 2001 as the second combat regiment after the East Bengal Regiment.
