Paddy Walsh
Patrick Yost Walsh (21 August 1906 – 3 August 1988) was an Australian rules footballer who played with the Essendon Football Club in the VFL/AFL. Family The son of Michael Walsh (1867–1942), and Matilda Walsh (1864–1947), née Yost. Football Having attracted the Essendon club's attention, as one of the best players on the ground during Essendon's Tasmanian tour match against a combined North-Eastern Football team, at Scottsdale on 28 July 1926 (Essendon coach Syd Barker officiated as field umpire), he was recruited in 1927. Walsh was a left-footed ruckman who won the Essendon Best and Fairest award in 1933. He played 115 games for the club over 10 seasons, and represented Victoria at interstate football 12 times in his career. He badly injured his knee in Essendon's 4 June 1934 (round 5) match against Richmond (his 105th senior game), and did not play again that season. Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. From 1878 until 1896, the club played in the Victorian Football Association then joined seven other clubs in October 1896 to form the breakaway Victorian Football League (later changed to AFL in 1990). Headquartered at the Essendon Recreation Ground, known as Windy Hill, from 1922 to 2013, the club moved to The Hangar in near Tullamarine in late 2013 on land owned the Melbourne Airport. Len Webster
Len Webster (26 December 1906 – 7 October 1985) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Webster, a fireman by profession, was a ruckman for Blackwood Forest and Loch before joining Essendon. He had an early setback in 1930 when he required surgery to remove cartilage in his knee but recovered well enough to play 15 of a possible 18 games in 1931. Tasmanian Football Hall Of Fame
The Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame was established to help recognise outstanding services and overall contribution made to the sport of Australian rules football in Tasmania. Any participant of the sport, including players, umpires, media personalities and coaches, may be inducted. A physical hall was established in 2005 after the Tasmanian Community Fund provided a $50,000 grant to assist AFL Tasmania and the Launceston City Council with establishment of a permanent facility at York Park. The decision to locate the Hall of Fame at the ground was because the site had recently been redeveloped and was positioned as the "true home of Tasmanian football". AFL Tasmania initiated the Hall of Fame nomination process, with a number of clubs, players and grounds nominated and accepted into the Hall of Fame since 2005. Jack Collins (footballer, Born 1910)
Jack Laurie Collins (13 February 1910 – 1 March 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1930s. A centre half forward, Collins debuted for Geelong in 1929. He was a member of their 1931 premiership team and had his best season in 1938 when he finished equal 7th in the Brownlow Medal. Collins also represented Victoria 11 times in interstate football. He was named as an emergency in Geelong's official 'Team of the Century'. 1933 Sydney Carnival
The 1933 Sydney Carnival was the eighth edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. The carnival was held in Sydney over an eleven-day period between Wednesday 2 August and Saturday 12 August. During the competition, Queensland broke a 20-game carnival losing streak when they accounted for Canberra by 42 points. The Canberrans were competing in their inaugural Australian National Football Carnival. New South Wales were the better of the weaker set of teams, defeating each of Tasmania, Canberra and Queensland. Once more, South Australian and Western Australia outfits were no match for Victoria. Australian Rules
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball.
