Paddy Naismith
Paddy Naismith or Eirane Redmond Naismith (16 May 1903 – 28 November 1963) was a British actress, pilot and racing driver. She appeared in an early live colour TV demonstration. Life She was born in 1908 to parents John Naismith and Mary Francis (née Redmond) Naismith. Her father sold car tyres and her mother was a well known clairvoyant. Her sisters, Jill and Sheila, were also actresses. She trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. In 1928 she was working with the Welsh Person Elder Company, who were making silent films based on the novels by the English writer WW Jacobs, with Jacobs involved in the creation of the films. The first film made was titled "The Bravo". Fifty actresses were auditioned and Jacobs was said to be impressed by Naismith, who was chosen to play Lucy, the lead role. Dame Mary Barbara Hamilton Cartland, (9 July 1901 – 21 May 2000) published as Barbara Cartland was an English writer, known as the Queen of Romance, who published both contemporary romance, contemporary and historical romance novels, the latter set primarily during the Victorian era, Victorian or Edwardian era, Edwardian period. The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is an art gallery in London housing a collection of portraits of historically important and famous British people. It was arguably the first national public gallery dedicated to portraits in the world when it opened in 1856. British Automobile Racing Club
The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) is one of the biggest organising clubs for auto racing in the United Kingdom. History The Cyclecar Club was formed in 1912, running races for the small and light motorbike powered vehicles at Brooklands as well as rallies and sporting trials. Among the founder members of the club were H.R. Godfrey and Archie Frazer-Nash. In 1919, with cyclecars on the decline, the name of the club changed to the Junior Car Club (JCC). The club was immediately successful, with regional centres being formed in 1921, the same year the 200-Mile Race at Brooklands was organised, the first long-distance race to be run in Britain. Elsie Mary Wisdom
Elsie Mary Wisdom (2 March 1904 – 13 April 1972), also known as "Bill Wisdom", was an English automobile racer. She was one of the first women to win a race for both male and female drivers at Brooklands. Fay Taylour
Fay Taylour (5 April 1904 – 2 August 1983), known as Flying Fay, was an Irish motorcyclist in the late 1920s and a champion speedway rider. She switched to racing cars in 1931. She was interned as a fascist during the Second World War. After the war, she managed to enter some races in the UK, Ireland, Sweden and Australia and took up midget car racing in America until she retired in the late 1950s.
