Paddy McDonnell
Patrick Joseph McDonnell (29 April 1895 – 18 July 1977) was a Gaelic footballer and Gaelic games administrator. At club level, he played with O'Tooles and also lined out at inter-county level with Dublin. Career McDonnell first played competitive football during a golden age for the O'Tooles club. In ten years from 1918 until 1928 he won nine county senior championship medals with the club before adding a tenth in 1931. Success at club level saw McDonnell join the Dublin senior team and he made his debut during the 1919 championship. Over the course of the next decade he had much success and won three successive All-Ireland medals between 1921 and 1923, albeit his first medal was as a non-playing substitute. He also won six Leinster medals. His brother, Johnny McDonnell, was also an All-Ireland medal winner with Dublin. Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake
The Irish Hospitals' Sweepstake was a lottery established in the Irish Free State in 1930 as the Irish Free State Hospitals' Sweepstake to finance hospitals. It is generally referred to as the Irish Sweepstake or Irish Sweepstakes, frequently abbreviated to Irish Sweep or Irish Sweeps. The Public Charitable Hospitals (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1930 was the act that established the lottery; as this act expired in 1934, in accordance with its terms, the Public Hospitals Acts were the legislative basis for the scheme thereafter. The main organisers were Richard Duggan, Captain Spencer Freeman and Joe McGrath. Duggan was a well known Dublin bookmaker who had organised a number of sweepstakes in the decade prior to setting up the Hospitals' Sweepstake. Captain Freeman was a Welsh-born engineer and former captain in the British Army. Phil O'Sullivan
Philip O'Sullivan (10 May 1895 – August 1952) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for a number of clubs in Kerry and Dublin and at inter-county level with the Kerry senior football team. He usually lined out as a defender. Career As a Gaelic footballer, hurler and athlete, O'Sullivan played his football with Lauragh and hurling with Kenmare. While a student in Dublin, he played with Faughs and University College Dublin and later when he took up a teaching post in Ballymacelligott he played with the local team. O'Sullivan first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kerry junior football team that won the All-Ireland Junior Championship title in 1915. The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). Leinster Junior Football Championship
The Leinster Junior Football Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Gaelic football played in the province of Leinster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Leinster Council. The competition began in 1906, with Wicklow winning during the inaugural year. The most successful county to date is Dublin who have won on twenty occasions. The current (2017) Leinster junior football champions are Meath. The 1916 All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was the fifth staging of the All-Ireland Junior Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's second tier Gaelic football championship. The All-Ireland final replay was played on 18 November 1917 at Jones's Road in Dublin, between Dublin and Limerick, in what was their first ever championship meeting. All-Ireland Junior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Football Championship is a GAA competition involving four Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams. Prior to a change in competition structure in 2021, the competition was previously for all Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams in Ireland. In this previous format, the definition of what constituted a Junior player differed from county to county. In some, the junior team was the second team after the senior team. This meant that any players who had not played with the senior team could play with the junior team. In others, such as Cork and Kerry, players could only be chosen from clubs that played in junior or intermediate grades. These counties could not choose players from senior clubs, even if they were not on the senior county team. When a team won this championship, it had to pick a new team for the following year.
