Paddy Doherty (Gaelic Footballer)
Paddy Doherty (born 1934) is a former Irish sportsperson. Born in Ballykinlar, County Down, he played Gaelic football with his local club Ballykinlar and was a member of the Down senior inter-county team from the 1950s until the 1960s. Doherty captained Down to the All-Ireland title in 1961. Ballykinler (), often transcribed as Ballykinlar, is a village and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies 12 kilometres south west of Downpatrick, in the parish of Tyrella and Dundrum. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 348 people. It is within the Newry, Mourne and Down area and runs parallel to the Irish Sea coast. Located within the Lecale Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the village is surrounded by low drumlins and marshes. It is also the site of a former British Army base known as Abercorn Barracks. Etymology At the time of the conquest of Ulster by John de Courcy around 1177, Ballykinlar was called ''Lesscummalscig.'' The tithes from the area went to Christ Church, Dublin to pay for wax candles hence it became . Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. The county football team was the fourth from the province of Munster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), as well as to appear in the final, following Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. Seán Óg Sheehy
Seán Óg Sheehy (born 24 May 1939) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Kerry county team. Sheehy's brothers Niall and Paudie also played with Kerry while his father, John Joe Sheehy, also captained Kerry to All-Ireland glory. Club At club level Sheehy won five consecutive county club championship winners' medals with John Mitchels from 1959-63. He won a sixth title in 1966. He also played hurling with the club. During his collage days he also won a Cork Senior Football Championship title with UCC in 1960. Underage Sheehy played both football and hurling with Kerry in the 1950s but had little success in either code. Junior Having lost his place on the Kerry senior team he joined the county's junior team. He won a Munster Junior Football Championship title in 1965 after overcoming Clare in the final. The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. The team won the cup again in 1961 and in 1968; this feat was not matched by another team until Down next won the All-Ireland SFC in its 1991 victory.
