Paddy Burke (Gaelic Footballer)
Patrick Joseph Burke (1921 – 14 November 1955) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side Milltown/Castlemaine and at inter-county level with the Kerry senior football team. Career Club At club level he lined out with Milltown/Castlemaine. He helped the club to win the first Mid Kerry Senior Football Championship in 1947. Intercounty Minor Burke lined out with Kerry at minor level in 1938. He won a Munster Minor Football Championship title scoring 1-01 in an 8-09 to 1-02 win over Cork i the final. He would go on to line out in the All-Ireland final but was on the losing side to Cavan. Junior He wouldn't line out with Kerry again until 1946 with the county Junior side. His only appearance being against Tipperary. Senior His displays withe the Junior side seen him make his first appearance at Senior inter-county level with Kerry during the 1946 Munster Championship. Milltown/Castlemaine is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Milltown, County Kerry, Milltown, County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1889, but the exact date is not clear. The club's first appearance in the Kerry Senior Football Championship was the following year. In 1891, Milltown entered two teams. It was the only club to do so. This was a great feat as both teams were composed of 21 players. They had some success with the A team, the Milltown Volunteers, winning a few games, only to be beaten by Laune Rangers. In 1892 the club entered one team. It won the first two games beating Cordal and Tough, only to be defeated by Ballymacelligott. Milltown club then seems to have declined for a few years as it didn't contest the County Championship again until 1900. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
