PacificLight
PacificLight is a Singapore-based power generator and electricity retailer. It runs an 800MW plant, operated by PacificLight Power Pte Ltd, which uses Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as its primary fuel. In 2015, PacificLight generated 9% of Singapore’s total electricity needs. PacificLight Energy Pte Ltd sells electricity to eligible consumers in Singapore, which includes manufacturing companies, shopping malls, SMEs, and small businesses such as coffee shops or retail outlets. Under the current government regulations, only non-residential customers with an average monthly electricity consumption of less than 2,000kWh are eligible. However, in 2018, the threshold will be reduced such that all Singapore electricity customers will be eligible to purchase electricity from a licensed retailer such as PacificLight Energy. Jurong Island
Jurong Island is an island located to the southwest of the main island of Singapore. It was formed from the amalgamation of seven offshore islands, the islands of Pulau Ayer Chawan, Pulau Ayer Merbau, Pulau Merlimau, Pulau Pesek, Pulau Pesek Kechil (also called Terumbu Pesek), Pulau Sakra (which was a previous merger of Pulau Sakra and Pulau Bakau), Pulau Seraya, Pulau Meskol, Pulau Mesemut Laut, Pulau Mesemut Darat and Anak Pulau. Clean Development Mechanism
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a United Nations-run carbon offset scheme allowing countries to fund greenhouse gas emissions-reducing projects in other countries and claim the saved emissions as part of their own efforts to meet international emissions targets. It is one of the three Flexible Mechanisms defined in the Kyoto Protocol. The CDM, defined in Article 12 of the Protocol, was intended to meet two objectives: (1) to assist non- Annex I countries (predominantly developing nations) achieve sustainable development and reduce their carbon footprints; and (2) to assist Annex I countries (predominantly industrialized nations) in achieving compliance with their emissions reduction commitments ( greenhouse gas emission caps).
