Pacaás Novos National Park
Pacaás Novos National Park ( pt, Parque Nacional de Pacaás Novos) is a national park in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. The park contains a mountain range by the same name. Location The park is in the Amazon biome. It covers an area of . It was established by decree 84.019 of 21 September 1979, and is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. The park covers parts of the municipalities of Alvorada d'Oeste, Campo Novo de Rondônia, Governador Jorge Teixeira, Guajará-Mirim, Mirante da Serra and Nova Mamoré in the state of Rondônia. The park takes its name from the Pacaás Novos River, which rises in the Pacaás Novos mountains in the west of the park and flows southwest via the Rio Pacaás Novos Extractive Reserve to join the Mamoré River just south of Guajará-Mirim. Rondônia
Rondônia () is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the northern subdivision of the country (central-western part). To the west is a short border with the state of Acre, to the north is the state of Amazonas, in the east is Mato Grosso, and in the south and southwest is Bolivia. Rondônia has a population of 1,815,000 as of 2021. It is the fifth least populated state. Its capital and largest city is Porto Velho. The state was named after Cândido Rondon, who explored the north of the country during the 1910s. Black-shouldered Opossum
The black-shouldered opossum (''Caluromysiops irrupta''), also known as the white-eared opossum, is an opossum known from western Brazil and southeastern Peru. It was first described by Colin Campbell Sanborn, curator of Field Museum of Natural History, in 1951. The black-shouldered opossum is characterized by a gray coat, gray underbelly, and broad black stripes that extend from the forefeet, meet on the shoulders, run along the midline of the back and then split into parallel stripes that run down the hind feet. Little is known of the behavior of the black-shouldered opossum. It is nocturnal and arboreal. It is known to feed on fruits and rodents. The opossum inhabits humid forests. The Western Amazon Ecological Corridor ( pt, Corredor Oeste da Amazônia) is a proposed ecological corridor connecting conservation units and indigenous territories in the southwest of the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. Guajará-Mirim State Park
The Guajará-Mirim State Park ( pt, Parque Estadual de Guajará-Mirim) is a state park in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. It protects an area of savanna forest and transition into rainforest. It is in an area where there is great pressure from loggers and ranchers. A road was illegally cut through the park, apparently by loggers supported by local politicians. This received federal approval after the fact, since it provides access to areas otherwise cut off by flooding of the Madeira River. Mamoré River
The Mamoré is a large river in Brazil and Bolivia which unites with the Beni to form the Madeira, one of the largest tributaries of the Amazon. It rises on the northern slope of the Sierra de Cochabamba, east of the city of Cochabamba, and is known as the Chimoré down to its junction with the Chapare. Its larger tributaries are the Chapare, Secure, Apere, and Yacuma from the west, and the Ichilo, Guapay, Ivari, Manique and Guapore from the east. Taking into account its length only, the Guapay should be considered the upper part of the Mamore; but it is shallow and obstructed, and carries a much smaller volume of water. Pacaás Novos River
The Pacaás Novos River ( pt, Rio Pacaás Novos) is a river of Rondônia state in western Brazil. It is a tributary of the Mamoré River, which it joins from the right just above Guajará-Mirim. The Pacaás Novos River rises in the mountains in the west of the Pacaás Novos National Park and flows west from there through the Rio Pacaás Novos Extractive Reserve.
