Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Poetry Award
The Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Poetry Award ( es, Premio Iberoamericano de Poesía Pablo Neruda) is an annual award granted by the National Council of Culture and the Arts (CNCA) of Chile, through the . It was created in 2004 by agreement between the CNCA, BancoEstado (sponsor), and the (sponsor) as a tribute to the centenary of the birth of poet Pablo Neruda. It is granted annually "to an author who has a distinguished career and whose work is a notable addition to the cultural and artistic dialogue of Ibero-America." The prize consists of , a medal, and a diploma. In 2012, for the first time, its prose counterpart was presented: the Manuel Rojas Ibero-American Narrative Award, in honor of the author of ''Hijo de ladrón'', which on that occasion was won by the Brazilian Rubem Fonseca. Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto (12 July 1904 – 23 September 1973), better known by his pen name and, later, legal name Pablo Neruda (; ), was a Chilean poet-diplomat and politician who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Literature. Neruda became known as a poet when he was 13 years old, and wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection ''Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair'' (1924). Antonio Cisneros
Antonio Alfonso Cisneros Campoy was a Peruvian poet, journalist and academic. He was born in Lima on 27 December 1942 and died there of lung cancer on 6 October 2012, aged 69. Career Cisneros studied literature from 1960 to 1964 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima and later he took a PhD at the National University of San Marcos in 1974. While still a student he began to publish his poems, including the collections ''Destierro'' (1961), ''David'' (1962) and the prize-winning ''Comentarios reales de Antonio Cisneros'' (1964), the novelty of which assured his reputation. It was further widened by ''Canto ceremonial contra un oso hormiguero'' (1968), for which he gained the Cuban Casa de las Américas Prize. Ernesto Cardenal
Ernesto Cardenal Martínez (20 January 1925 – 1 March 2020) was a Nicaraguan Catholic priest, poet, and politician. He was a liberation theologian and the founder of the primitivist art community in the Solentiname Islands, where he lived for more than ten years (1965–1977). A former member of the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, he was Nicaragua's minister of culture from 1979 to 1987. He was prohibited from administering the sacraments in 1984 by Pope John Paul II, but rehabilitated by Pope Francis in 2019.
