Pablo Ferrari
Pablo Augusto Ferrari (September 11, 1949) is an Argentine mathematician, member of the Bernoulli Society, the Institute for Mathematical Statistics, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and the International Statistical Institute. He is also co-principal investigator at the Brazilian research center NeuroMat. Ferrari investigates probabilistic models of microscopic phenomena and macroscopic counterpart. He is the son of the contemporary conceptual artist León Ferrari. Biography Pablo Ferrari was born in 1949. He got a degree in mathematics from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in 1974 and PhD in Statistics from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) in 1982. Ferrari was Professor at the USP from 1978 to 2008 and a visiting professor at Rutgers, Paris, Rome, Santiago de Chile and Cambridge. The Bernoulli Society is a professional association which aims to further the progress of probability and mathematical statistics, founded as part of the International Statistical Institute in 1975. It is named after the Bernoulli family of mathematicians and scientists whose researchers covered "most areas of scientific knowledge". The International Statistical Institute (ISI) is a professional association of statisticians. It was founded in 1885, although there had been international statistical congresses since 1853. The institute has about 4,000 elected members from government, academia, and the private sector. The affiliated Associations have membership open to any professional statistician. The Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (RIDC NeuroMat, or simply NeuroMat) is a Brazilian research center established in 2013 at the University of São Paulo that is dedicated to integrating mathematical modeling and theoretical neuroscience. León Ferrari (September 3, 1920 – July 25, 2013) was an Argentine contemporary conceptual artist. During his extended art career (1954-2013), his artworks often protested the Argentinian government, the imperialist west, and the Church. Ferrari's protest piece "Western and Christian Civilization", which depicted a near life-size Christ hanging crucified on an American fighter jet, attracted controversy when he created it in 1965, and it has been exhibited many times since. Ferrari caused protests against his work throughout his career, including from Pope Francis when he was still Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio. Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts."
