PZInż 703
PZInż 703 and its development versions PZInż 713 and PZInż 723 were a family of Polish trucks, lorries, buses and artillery trailers. Designed by a team at Państwowe Zakłady Inżynieryjne works, the series was to replace the ageing Polski Fiat 621 lorry in the service of the Polish Army. Serial production was to start in 1940, only a short pre-production series was completed before the invasion of Poland and the outbreak of World War II. After the war the original PZInż 703 served as the blueprint for the Star 20 truck, the first truck to be constructed by FSC Star. Variants The PZInż 703 and its derivatives were to be available in several variants, depending on frame type, cab shape and engine. Polski Fiat 621 was a Polish 2.5-tonne truck, the basic lorry of the Polish Army during the 1930s. A licence-built version of the Italian Fiat 621, it was heavily modified to better suit Polish needs and cope with the bad roads in Poland. The undercarriage was produced in two variants: The Polski Fiat 621 L was the basic variant to receive a number of superstructures while the Polski Fiat 621 R was used as the basis for a line of successful buses for the civilian market and heavier, 3-tonne lorries for the army. Their first vehicle was the ''Star 20'' in 1948. The most popular product was the ''Star 266''. The 266 model offered very good quality and powerful engines for a low price. It was sold in various countries for many years (not only in the Eastern Bloc; for example it was used by the Military of Yemen#Army, Yemen Army). For many years FSC Star was a state-owned company. Cab-over, also known as cab over engine (COE), cab forward (U.S.), flat nose (Canada), or forward control (UK), is a body style of truck, bus, or van that has a vertical front, "flat face" or a semi-hood, with the cab of the truck sitting above (or forward of) the front axle.
