PTU (film)
''PTU'', also known as ''PTU: Police Tactical Unit'', is a 2003 Hong Kong crime thriller film produced and directed by Johnnie To, starring Simon Yam, Maggie Shiu, Lam Suet and Ruby Wong. Plot The film follows a series of encounters of a group of patrolling Police Tactical Unit troopers during one night, which starts off when the patrol-team tries to help a sergeant of the District Anti-Triad Squad of the Hong Kong Police Force, Lo Sa, to retrieve his lost service-issue revolver after he was assaulted by a group of triad members. The films portrays the police officers' use of extra-legal means to achieve the results of investigations and reveals the complex relationships between criminals and police officers, the hostility amongst criminals themselves and even the rivalry among different bureaux within the Hong Kong Police Force. Johnnie To Kei-fung (born 22 April 1955) is a Hong Kong film director, screenwriter and film producer. Popular in his native Hong Kong, To has also found acclaim overseas. GreenCine was an online DVD rental service similar to Netflix. Based in San Francisco, California, with its distribution center in the Los Angeles area ( Van Nuys), it had a collection of over 30,000 titles as well as over 9,000 video on demand titles. It carried a wide range of anime, rare, and independent studio films, as well as adult films on its sister site, BlueCine. It also dedicated 1% of its profits to support independent filmmaking, using the money to both fund and promote independent films that were distributed through the service. It was one of the first video rental services to offer video on demand and fund its own productions, a decade before Netflix and Amazon. Lawrence Ah Mon or Lawrence Lau Kwok Cheong (劉國昌) (born 1949) is a Hong Kong film director. His films are notable for their lurid exploration of the problems of the poor in modern Hong Kong, such as ''Gangs'' (1986), ''Spacked Out'' (2000), ''Gimme Gimme'' (2001) and ''City Without Baseball'' (2008). Wing-cheong Law
Law Wing-Cheong (born 26 June 1966), also known as Vincent Lo, is a Hong Kong film editor, an assistant director, film director, and actor. He is best known for collaborating as an associate director for films made by Johnnie To and Wai Ka-Fai of Milkyway Image. Biography Law began working for Johnnie To as an assistant director at TVB Studios in 1990. Later, when To left the TV studio, Law continued to work as a director there for three years. In 1997, Law was recruited by To to join his company, Milkyway Image, where he began to work as an assistant director for To. Gradually, Law was promoted to become his associate director. Law describes being an associate director as having to think faster than the director, as well as handling some of the less complicated scenes for the director and making all kinds of job distributions on the set. The Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), held annually in Seattle, Washington since 1976, is among the top film festivals in North America. The Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards () are the annual awards given by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society in Hong Kong since 1994. The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA; ), founded in 1982, is an annual film awards ceremony in Hong Kong. The ceremonies are typically in April. Martin Richard Chappell (), born in Nottingham, England is a musician-turned-Hong Kong sound editor. He is most notable for serving as a sound editor on Hong Kong films made by Johnnie To and his production company, Milkyway Image. Biography Martin Chappell was born in Nottingham, England. Under the influence of his pianist grandfather, Martin Chappell decided to follow his interest in sound at early age - inspired by the works of Stockhaussen and Peter Murphy's Bauhaus. Growing up in England, Chappell started as a bass guitarist and audio fan.
