An opinion poll, often simply referred to as a survey or a poll (although strictly a poll is an actual election) is a human research survey of public opinion from a particular sample. Opinion polls are usually designed to represent the opinions of a population by conducting a series of questions and then extrapolating generalities in ratio or within confidence intervals. A person who conducts polls is referred to as a pollster. An election exit poll is a poll of voters taken immediately after they have exited the polling stations. A similar poll conducted before actual voters have voted is called an entrance poll. Pollsters – usually private companies working for newspapers or broadcasters – conduct exit polls to gain an early indication as to how an election has turned out, as in many elections the actual result may take hours to count. Marcel van Dam, Dutch sociologist and former politician, says he was the inventor, by being the first to implement one during the Dutch legislative elections on February 15, 1967. Martin Poll (November 24, 1922 – April 14, 2012) was an American film and television producer. Poll produced eleven feature films during his career, including '' The Lion in Winter'', for which he received a 1968 Academy Award nomination for Academy Award for Best Picture. Poll was a Greek pop group founded in 1971 by Kostas Tournas, Robert Williams, Stavros Logaridis and Kostas Papaioannou. In Greece, it is considered a historic group of the 1970s with pioneering lyrics. Poll is a legendary pop group which resonated with the Greek youth of the '70s, and its songs are viewed as "some of the best songs, which have remained in the history of Greek music". Claudia María Poll Ahrens (born 21 December 1972) is a former Costa Rican swimmer who competed in the 200 m to 800 m freestyle events. She is Costa Rica's only Olympic gold-medalist, having won the country's first Olympic gold medals at the 1996 Olympics in the 200 meter freestyle. She is a multiple national record holder in the freestyle events. Her sister, Silvia, won Costa Rica's first Olympic medal, the silver medal, at the 1988 Games. Brian William Poll (5 January 1941 – 18 June 1999) was an English cricketer. Poll was a right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Poll made his debut for Buckinghamshire in the 1966 Minor Counties Championship against Hertfordshire. Poll played Minor counties cricket for Buckinghamshire from 1966 to 1980, which included 131 Minor Counties Championship matches. In 1969, he made his List A debut against Middlesex in the Gillette Cup. He played 7 further List A matches for Buckinghamshire, the last coming against Suffolk in the 1979 Gillette Cup. He also played 2 List A matches for Minor Counties South in the 1972 Benson & Hedges Cup against Somerset and Glamorgan.
