PM (ABC Radio)
''PM'' is one of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's flagship current affairs radio programs. It is also one of Australia's longest-running productions, having been first aired on 7 July 1969. It is the sister program to '' AM''. It is as of September 2022 hosted by David Lipson and broadcast on ABC Radio National and ABC Local Radio. History and timeslots ''PM'' was created in 1969 for what were then ABC Radio 1 and Radio 3 (now ABC Local Radio). Launched on 7 July 1969, two years after its sister programme ''AM'', with both names created by ABC General Manager Talbot Duckmanton. It aired every weekday at 6:10 pm (after the 6:00 pm news bulletin), becoming a popular afternoon radio current affairs programme. Australian Broadcasting Corporation
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by a government-appointed board. The ABC is a publicly-owned body that is politically independent and fully accountable, with its charter enshrined in legislation, the ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983''. ABC Commercial, a profit-making division of the corporation, also helps to generate funding for content provision. The ABC was established as the Australian Broadcasting Commission on 1 July 1932 by an act of federal parliament. Paul Murphy (Australian Journalist)
Paul Murphy (1942 or 1943 – 20 October 2020) was an Australian political journalist and radio and television presenter. Career He presented the ABC's afternoon radio current affairs program ''PM (Australian radio program), PM'' for a decade from 1983 to 1993. Among his favourite moments on the program during his time there was the coverage of the final caucus showdown between Bob Hawke and Paul Keating. In the 1994 Australia Day Honours Murphy was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for "service to public broadcasting and to journalism". In 2000, he was awarded the Walkley Award for Most Outstanding Contribution to Journalism. Murphy died from cancer on 20 October 2020, aged 77. Linda Mottram (journalist)
Linda Mottram is a British former professional tennis player. Active on tour in the 1970s, Mottram is the daughter of tennis players Tony Mottram and Joy Gannon. She has an elder brother, Buster Mottram, who also competed professionally. Mottram was runner-up to Evonne Goolagong at the 1975 Auckland Open. Mark Colvin
Mark Colvin (13 March 1952 – 11 May 2017) was an Australian journalist and radio and television broadcaster for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), and worked on most of the flagship current affairs programs. Notably, based in Sydney, he was the presenter of '' PM''— the radio current affairs program on the ABC Radio network — from 1997 to 2017. Maxine McKew
Maxine Margaret McKew (born 22 July 1953) is a former Australian Labor politician and journalist; she was the Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government in the First Rudd Ministry and the First Gillard Ministry. Between 2007 and 2010, she was the member of the House of Representatives for the Division of Bennelong, New South Wales. Katharine Jean Baillieu (born 17 January 1946) is an Australian former journalist. Early career Baillieu worked as a journalist and later as a personal assistant to Kerry Packer. In 1977, Baillieu was awarded the Douglas Wilkie Medal by the Anti-Football League. Robert John Carr (born 28 September 1947) is an Australian retired politician and journalist who served as the 39th Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, as the leader of the NSW Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Radio National, known on-air as RN, is an Australia-wide public service broadcasting radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). From 1947 until 1985, the network was known as ABC Radio 2.
