Professional Fighters League
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is an American mixed martial arts league founded by venture capitalist Donn Davis in 2017 and launched in 2018, following the acquisition and restructuring of the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) promotion in 2017 by MMAX Investment Partners. It is the first major MMA organization in which individual athletes compete in a regular season, post-season and championship, rather than on a year-round basis. The PFL currently puts on fights across six weight-divisions: featherweight, women's lightweight, lightweight, welterweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. The PFL's matches are held inside a 10-sided mixed martial arts cage known as the SmartCage, and adhere to the unified rules of mixed martial arts, with the exception of the prohibition of elbow strikes. The PFL's inaugural event took place on June 7, 2018 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. At the end, each champion of the six weight classes wo ...

Sports In Manhattan
Sport pertains to any form of competitive physical activity or game that aims to use, maintain, or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators. Sports can, through casual or organized participation, improve participants' physical health. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete, simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a ''match'') is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a "tie" or "draw", in which there is no single winner; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a r ...

Mixed Martial Arts In New York (state)
In 2016, New York became the 50th U.S. state to legalize and regulate mixed martial arts (MMA), after the sport had been banned in the state in 1997. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) oversees mixed martial arts contests in the state. History Pre-ban UFC 7 was held on September 8, 1995, at the Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, New York. Ban (1997–2016) In February 1997, Governor George Pataki signed into law a bill that banned MMA in the state. This resulted in the UFC 12 event being moved from its originally scheduled location of Buffalo, New York, to Dothan, Alabama. Post-ban (2016–present) On March 22, 2016, New York became the 50th U.S. state to legalize and regulate the sport when the New York State Assembly approved Bill No. A02604. From 2010, the New York State Senate had passed a legalization bill, but it had never passed the State Assembly, largely due to the opposition of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. '' UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor'', held at ...
