Program Evaluation And Review Technique
The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) is a statistical tool used in project management, which was designed to analyze and represent the tasks involved in completing a given project. First developed by the United States Navy in 1958, it is commonly used in conjunction with the critical path method (CPM) that was introduced in 1957. Overview PERT is a method of analyzing the tasks involved in completing a given project, especially the time needed to complete each task, and to identify the minimum time needed to complete the total project. It incorporates uncertainty by making it possible to schedule a project while not knowing precisely the details and durations of all the activities. It is more of an event-oriented technique rather than start- and completion-oriented, and is used more in those projects where time is the major factor rather than cost. It is applied on very large-scale, one-time, complex, non-routine infrastructure and on Research and Developmen ...

PERT Distribution
In probability and statistics, the PERT distribution is a family of continuous probability distributions defined by the minimum (a), most likely (b) and maximum (c) values that a variable can take. It is a transformation of the four-parameter beta distribution with an additional assumption that its expected value is : \mu = \frac 6. The mean of the distribution is therefore defined as the weighted average of the minimum, most likely and maximum values that the variable may take, with four times the weight applied to the most likely value. This assumption about the mean was first proposed in Clark, 1962 for estimating the effect of uncertainty of task durations on the outcome of a project schedule being evaluated using the program evaluation and review technique, hence its name. The mathematics of the distribution resulted from the authors' desire to make the standard deviation equal to about 1/6 of the range. The PERT distribution is widely used in risk analysis to represent the ...

Postsecondary Education Readiness Test
The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) is a computer adaptive test which measures a student's level of preparedness for college-level courses. The test is currently being used by all Florida high schools and the 28 members of the Florida College System. The PERT was created by McCann Associates in cooperation with Florida educators. The test is divided into three sections: Mathematics, Reading, and Writing. History Florida Section 1008.30 of the Florida Statutes, first implemented in 1992 by the Florida Legislature, required the State Board of Education to create and implement a common placement-testing program to determine the readiness of students to enter a degree program at any public college or university. In October 2010 the Florida Department of Education's Division of Florida Colleges implemented one of the first customized college placement tests developed by a team of K-12 and college faculty. The process began in April 2008, when, on the recommendation of ...

Pert (sidewheeler)
''Pert'' was a sidewheel steamboat that operated in British Columbia on the Columbia River from 1887 to 1905, often transporting large loads of timber. ''Pert'' was also known as ''Alert'' and ''City of Windermere'' at times. Design and construction ''Pert'' was built at Golden, British Columbia, by Fred Wells, who named the vessel ''Alert''. The vessel seems to have been originally built as a bateau, that is, an unpowered river vessel propelled by oars or by poling along the river. An engine and sidewheels were installed in 1890. Operations In 1891, Capt. Frank P. Armstrong started operating ''Pert'' as part of his steamboat line, the Upper Columbia Navigation & Tramway Co. (UCN&T) to operate on the headwaters of the Columbia River above Golden, an area which is known as the Columbia Valley. From 1892 to 1898, Armstrong ran ''Pert'' on Columbia Lake. Use on Columbia Lake The river flowing out of Columbia Lake was often too shallow for a steamboat, and so UCN&T built a mule or ...
