DEC BATCH-11/DOS-11
BATCH-11/DOS-11, also known simply as DOS-11, is a discontinued operating system by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) of Maynard, Massachusetts. The first version of DOS-11 (V08-02) was released in 1970 and was the first operating system to run on the Digital PDP-11 minicomputer. DOS-11 was not known to be easy to use even in its day and became much less used in 1973 with the release of the RT-11 operating system. Features DOS-11 included: * DOS-Monitor * Edit-11 (text editor) * FORTRAN IV (programming language) * Libr-11 (librarian) * Link-11 (linker) * ODT-11R ( debugging program) * PAL-11R (assembler) * PIP (file utility package) DOS-11 came with XXDP, a diagnostics and monitor program for the PDP-11. Like other Digital operating systems, DOS-11 also had a FORTRAN-IV (Ansi-66) compiler. FORTRAN-IV was not supported on PDP-11 systems with less than 12K of memory. DOS-11 systems running in 8K and 12K configurations ran a limited version of the MACRO-11 Assembler (PAL-11 ... MACRO-11
--> , typing = Untyped , scope = Lexical , programming language = assembly language , discontinued = Yes , platform = PDP-11 , operating system = All DEC PDP-11 , influenced by = PAL-11R , influenced = VAX MACRO , website = MACRO-11 is an assembly language with macro facilities, designed for PDP-11 minicomputer family from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). It is the successor to Program Assembler Loader (PAL-11R), an earlier version of the PDP-11 assembly language without macro facilities. MACRO-11 was supported on all DEC PDP-11 operating systems. PDP-11 Unix systems also include an assembler (named '' as''), structurally similar to MACRO-11, but with different syntax and fewer features. The MACRO-11 assembler (and programs created by it) could also run under the RSX-11 compatibility mode of OpenVMS on VAX. Programming example A complete " Hello, world!" program in PDP-11 macro assembler, to run under RT-11 RT-11 (Real-time 11) is a discontinued small, low-end, sin ... As (Unix)
as is a generic command name for an assembler on Unix. Implementations More than one assembler for Unix and Unix-like operating systems has been implemented with an executable called as. Users may be able to determine which implementation (if any) is present on their system by consulting the system's manuals, or by running as --version. AT&T / Bell Labs As of November 1971, an assembler invoked as as was available for Unix. Implemented by Bell Labs staff, it was based upon the Digital Equipment Corporation's PAL-11R assembler. GNU Assembler Circa 1986, the GNU Assembler The GNU Assembler, commonly known as gas or as, is the assembler developed by the GNU Project. It is the default back-end of GCC. PDP-11
The PDP-11 is a series of 16-bit minicomputers sold by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) from 1970 into the 1990s, one of a set of products in the Programmed Data Processor (PDP) series. In total, around 600,000 PDP-11s of all models were sold, making it one of DEC's most successful product lines. The PDP-11 is considered by some experts to be the most popular minicomputer. The PDP-11 included a number of innovative features in its instruction set and additional general-purpose registers that made it much easier to program than earlier models in the PDP series. Further, the innovative Unibus system allowed external devices to be easily interfaced to the system using direct memory access, opening the system to a wide variety of peripherals. The PDP-11 replaced the PDP-8 in many real-time computing applications, although both product lines lived in parallel for more than 10 years. The ease of programming of the PDP-11 made it very popular for general-purpose computing uses also. ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
