Premanand Shantaram Ramani (born Premananda Xantarama Sinai Ramanim; 30 November 1938) is an Indian neurosurgeon and writer, known for his work in Newcastle and his neurospinal surgery technique of "PLIF". He is currently the senior neurospinal surgeon at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. An annual marathon, titled "Dr P S Ramani Goa Marathon", is held in his honour in Goa. It is . Early life Ramani was born on 30 November 1938 to Ahilyabai and Shantaram, a forest officer, in the village of Wadi Talaulim in Goa. He was the fifth of six siblings (three boys and three girls). The siblings were mainly brought up by their mother, as their father was often away due to the nature of his work. Since a young age, Ramani loved to read. Wadi Talaulim
Wadi-Talaulim is a village in Ponda taluka of Goa, India. As of 2018, it has a population of 3,800. Etymology Wadi Talaulim derives its name from Konkani language, Konkani, in which ''Talaulim'' means ‘land between three mountains and a river’ while ''Wadi'' is a place where a few farmers and other villagers reside. Location A 4-kilometre drive from Ponda, Goa, Ponda brings you into Wadi-Talaulim. It is located 25 kilometres east of the state capital Panaji. The village is bordered by Borim, Durbhat and Quela on one side and the Zuari River, Zuari river on the other. History Wadi and Talaulim were two separate villages, as they belonged to separate communidades. A few years after the liberation of Goa in 1961, they began being governed by the same Panchayati raj (India), panchayat.
