P. Prasad is an Indian politician, social worker and environmentalist from Kerala. He is currently serving as a Minister for Agriculture, Government of Kerala; represents Cherthala constituency in 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. He is executive committee member of Communist Party of India. Personal life P. Prasad was born in 1969 as the son of G Parameswaran Nair and Gomatiamma at Palamel, Nooranad, Alappuzha district. His father Parameswaran Nair was an AITUC leader and a member of the CPI Alappuzha District Council. He completed BSc Mathematics from Pandalam NSS College in 1989. Communist Party of India (CPI) is the oldest Marxist–Leninist communist party in India and one of the nine national parties in the country. The CPI was founded in modern-day Kanpur (formerly known as Cawnpore) on 26 December 1925. Aranmula International Airport
Aranmula International Airport was an airport project planned to be built at Aranmula, Pathanamthitta district of Kerala in India, at a cost of . The airport never received the necessary clearances and the project was abandoned. The airport was proposed to be built on about of land. The controversial project faced strong protest from environmentalists and opposition parties of Kerala. After the Supreme Court of India ratified an order of National Green Tribunal verdict declaring the Aranmula Airport Project in violation of environmental requirements, the Government of India withdrew its sanction for the airport, leading to the termination of the project. The State Legislative Assembly, or Vidhan Sabha, or also Saasana Sabha, is a legislative body in the states and union territories of India. In the 28 states and 3 union territories with a unicameral state legislature, it is the sole legislative body and in 6 states it is the lower house of their bicameral state legislatures with the upper house being State Legislative Council. 5 union territories are governed directly by the Union Government of India and have no legislative body. Each Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is directly elected to serve 5-year terms by single-member constituencies. 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly Election
The 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was held on 16 May 2016 to elect 140 MLAs to the 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly. Voter turnout was 77.53%, up from 75.12% in the previous election. The result was declared on 19 May 2016. The Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), won the election, defeating the incumbent United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Indian National Congress (INC), which could only win 47 seats in the election. Pinarayi Vijayan was sworn in as the Chief Minister on 25 May. Background The tenure of the members of the Legislative Assembly in the state was to end on 31 May 2016. Kerala State Housing Board
Kerala State Housing Board (Abbreviation: KSHB) is a Kerala governmental group that provides direction and planning in housing activities. It was established under Act 19 of 1971. History Before the board, governmental and non-governmental agencies executed house building projects without co-ordination. Housing Minister's Conferences in 1957 and in 1961 recommended the establishment of a Housing Board/Corporation in every state. The Trivandrum City Improvement Trust Act in 1960 provided the framing and execution of housing projects to the city of Trivandrum. The town planning act 1108 (Act IV of 1108) applies only to the city of Travancore-Cochin area while the Madras Town Planning Act, 1920 (Madras Act VII of 1920), applies to the Malabar area. Munnar
Munnar () is a town and hill station in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around above mean sea level, in the Western Ghats mountain range. Munnar is also called the "Kashmir of South India" and is a popular honeymoon destination. Etymology The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to its location at the confluence of the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundali rivers. Kurinjimala Sanctuary
Kurinjimala Sanctuary protects the approximately 32 hectare core habitat of the endangered Neelakurinji plant in the Kottakamboor and Vattavada villages in Devikulam Taluk, in the Idukki district of Kerala, a state in southern India. History According to some historians, the earliest known inhabitants of southern India were hunter-gatherers who inhabited Kurinjimala. The sanctuary was declared by the Kerala Forest Minister Benoy Viswam at the Neelakurinji Fest at Munnar on 7 October 2006. During the 2006 bloom, massive flowering of Neelakurinji attracted nearly ten lakh (1,000,000) people to Munnar and other places. The Government notification said that the sanctuary would ensure the long-term protection of the unique biodiversity of the area, especially ''Strobilanthes kunthiana'' and its habitat. Narmada Bachao Andolan
''Narmada Bachao Andolan'' (NBA) is an Indian social movement spearheaded by native tribals (''adivasis''), farmers, environmentalists and human rights activists against a number of large dam projects across the Narmada River, which flows through the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat is one of the biggest dams on the river and was one of the first focal points of the movement. It is part of the Narmada Dam Project, whose main aim is to provide irrigation and electricity to people of the above states. Medha Patkar née Khanolkar (born 1 December 1954) is an Indian social activist and former Politician working on various crucial political and economic issues raised by tribals, dalits, farmers, labourers and women facing injustice in India. She is an alumnus of TISS, a premier institute of social science research in India. Patkar is the founder member of the 32 years old people's movement called Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) in three states: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. NBA has been engaged in a struggle for justice for the people affected by the dam projects related to the Sardar Sarovar dam project, especially those whose homes will be submerged but have not yet been rehabilitated.
