The PWS-5 or PWS-5t2, was a multi-seated Poland, Polish liaison aircraft, developed in 1928 by PWS (aircraft manufacturer), PWS (''Podlaska Wytwórnia Samolotów'' - "Podlasie Aircraft Factory"). Liaison Aircraft
A liaison aircraft (also called an army cooperation aircraft) is a small, usually unarmed aircraft primarily used by military forces for artillery observation or transporting commanders and messages. The concept developed before World War II and included also battlefield reconnaissance, air ambulance, column control, light cargo delivery and similar duties. Able to operate from small, unimproved fields under primitive conditions, with STOL capabilities, most liaison aircraft were developed from, or were later used as general aviation aircraft. Both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters can perform liaison duties. Lublin R-X
The Lublin R-X was a Polish single-engined, two seat liaison aircraft, built in 1929 in aviation, 1929 in the Plage i Laśkiewicz factory in Lublin. Seven were completed, two of them prototypes. Four served with Polish air regiments and another made several notable long flights and tours. Dęblin is a town at the confluence of Vistula and Wieprz rivers, in Lublin Voivodeship, Poland. The radial engine is a reciprocating type internal combustion engine configuration in which the cylinders "radiate" outward from a central crankcase like the spokes of a wheel. It resembles a stylized star when viewed from the front, and is called a "star engine" in some other languages. Scarff Mounting
The Scarff ring was a type of machine gun mounting developed during the First World War by Warrant Officer (Gunner) F. W. Scarff of the Admiralty Air Department for use on two-seater aircraft. The mount incorporated bungee cord suspension in elevation to compensate for the weight of the gun, and allowed an airgunner in an open cockpit to swivel and elevate his weapon (a Lewis machine gun) quickly, and easily fire in any direction. Later models permitted the fitting of two Lewis guns; while this doubled the firepower available, operation of the paired guns was more cumbersome, and required considerable strength from the gunner, especially at altitude, so that many gunners preferred the original single gun - and this became the postwar standard.
