P.C. Reinsnes
Petter Carl Reinsnes (usually called P.C. Reinsnes; 4 October 1904 – 12 March 1976) was a Norwegian politician (Norwegian Labour Party), mayor of the Sortland municipality, county mayor of Nordland, and a member of the Storting. Petter Ovald Karlsen (later Petter Carl Reinsnes) was born in the Reinsnes district of Sortland municipality. He was elected into Sortland municipal council in the fall of 1931, and became mayor in 1935. He was removed from office by the Nazis in 1941, during the German occupation of Norway, and in 1944 he was forced to escape to Sweden. When the war was over, he returned to the Sortland municipality, and worked as mayor until 1959. His party, the Norwegian Labour Party, lost the municipal election in 1959, and Reinsnes consequently lost his position as mayor. Reinsnes retained his position on the municipal council. Kvalsaukan Bridge
The Kvalsaukan Bridge ( no, Kvalsaukan bru) is a bridge that crosses the Hognfjorden in Sortland Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the Norwegian County Road 82 between the Sortland (town), town of Sortland and the neighboring Andøy Municipality. The bridge is long and the maximum clearance to the sea is . The Kvalsaukan Bridge was opened in 1975. It was one of four bridges that were built in the 1970s to connect the islands of Vesterålen to each other. The other bridges that were built during that period are the Sortland Bridge, Andøy Bridge, and Hadsel Bridge. Together with the Tjeldsund Bridge near Harstad, these bridges connect the islands of Vesterålen to the mainland. The Kvalsaukan Bridge is the only one of these four bridges that was never a toll bridge. Olav V
Olav V (; born Prince Alexander of Denmark; 2 July 1903 – 17 January 1991) was the King of Norway from 1957 until his death in 1991. Olav was the only child of King Haakon VII of Norway and Maud of Wales. He became heir apparent to the Norwegian throne when his father was elected King of Norway in 1905. He was the first heir to the Norwegian throne to be brought up in Norway since Olav IV in the fourteenth century, and his parents made sure he was given as Norwegian an upbringing as possible. In preparation for his future role, he attended both civilian and military schools. In 1929, he married his first cousin Princess Märtha of Sweden. During World War II his leadership was much appreciated and he was appointed Norwegian Chief of Defence in 1944. Olav became king following the death of his father in 1957. Nils Aas
Nils Sigurd Aas (21 April 1933 – 10 February 2004) was a Norwegian sculptor. He was one of the most prominent artists in modern Norwegian sculpture and is particularly well known for his statue of Haakon VII, located in the June Seventh Square in Oslo, and for designing coins for Norwegian currency, including 10- krone and 20-krone coins. Biography Nils Sigurd Aas was born in Inderøy, in Nord-Trøndelag County, Norway. He grew up in a family of prominent carpenters and furniture makers. His grandfather (also named Nils Aas) had established a carpentry workshop and water-driven sawmill in Straumen. His father, Ivar Aas, took over the carpentry workshop at the death of the elder Nils Aas in 1927, and eventually won awards for his furniture work. The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements.
