Oxycheilopsis
''Oxycheilopsis'' is an extinct genus of beetles in the family Cicindelidae, containing only one known species, ''Oxycheilopsis cretacicus'' . It is known from the Early Cretaceous (Aptian) Santana Formation of Brazil.F. Cassola and K. Werner. 2004. Cicindelidae
Tiger beetles are a family of beetles, Cicindelidae, known for their aggressive predatory habits and running speed. The fastest known species of tiger beetle, ''Rivacindela hudsoni'', can run at a speed of , or about 125 body lengths per second. As of 2005, about 2,600 species and subspecies were known, with the richest diversity in the Oriental (Indo-Malayan) region, followed by the Neotropics. While historically treated as a subfamily of ground beetles (Carabidae) under the name Cicindelinae, several studies since 2020 indicated that they should be treated as a family, the Cicindelidae, which are a sister group to Carabidae within the Adephaga. Fabio Cassola
Fabio Cassola (17 October 1938 – 14 January 2016) was an Italian lawyer and amateur entomologist who specialized in the tiger beetles. Cassola was born in Rome and received a Classical Lyceum degree (1956) and a degree in law (1960). He practiced law from 1963 working out of an office in the National Social Insurance Institute, Rome. Cassola was also a keen conservationist who was involved in founding the WWF-Italy branch. His interest in tiger beetles began young as his father Mario Cassola was an insect collector. Cassolas collection of tiger beetles was donated to the Museo Civico di Zoologia, Rome. A number of tiger beetles are named after him including the genus ''Cassolaia'' , a fossil species ''Palaeoiresina cassolai'' and ''Cylindera fabiocassola'' . Karl Werner (entomologist)
Karl Werner (30 October 1956 – 12 May 2007) was a German entomologist and specimen collector who specialized in the Carabidae. He described 3 genera and nearly 70 species of beetles and was especially interested in rediscovering '' Apteroessa grossa''. Werner, known to his friends as "Charly", was born in Peiting and schooled there and at Schongau before studying politics in Munich (1985). He however pursued a career as a freelancer in entomology. He began to travel widely and collect insects and trade in specimens. The Aptian is an age in the geologic timescale or a stage in the stratigraphic column. Santana Formation
The Santana Group is a geologic group, formerly included as the middle part of the Araripe Group, in the Araripe Basin of northeastern Brazil. The group comprises the Crato, Ipubi and Romualdo Formations and is dated to the Aptian to Albian stages of the Early Cretaceous.
