The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School (OHCHS) is a public high school in South Paris, Maine, a census-designated place (CDP) located within the town of Paris in Oxford County, Maine, United States. Part of the Oxford Hills School District (MSAD 17), the school serves the towns of Paris, Oxford, Norway, West Paris, Waterford, Hebron, Harrison and Otisfield. History Oxford Hills High School was founded in 1961 as part of a consolidation plan statewide for small schools. It combined Norway High School and Paris High School, then crosstown rivals. The school operated in the previous school buildings until 1966–67, when a new school was built nearby. In 1998, the school integrated local technical classes and the core curriculum, creating the current institution. South Paris is a census-designated place (CDP) located within the town of Paris in Oxford County, Maine, in the United States. The population was 2,237 at the 2000 census. While the CDP refers only to the densely settled area in the southern part of the town of Paris, the entire town, outside of Paris Hill, is located within the South Paris ZIP code, resulting in many residents referring to the entire town as South Paris. History During the 19th-century, the Little Androscoggin River provided water power to operate mills in South Paris, and the village grew up around them. Norway is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 5,077 at the 2020 census. It is home to Lake Pennesseewassee, a recreation area. History Fertile soil and abundant fauna surrounding the Pennessewasse Lake supported native people in the region for thousands of years. It wasn't until after the American Revolution that European settlers established the town of Norway. In 1786, Joseph Stevens, George Leslie, Amos Hobbs, Jeremiah Hobbs, Jonas Stevens, and Nathaniel Stevens began clearing land and building homes. Joe Perham
Joe Perham (October 26, 1932 – August 29, 2013) was an American humorist, known for his "Down East Maine" humor. Perham's humor style was an influence on Tim Sample. Sample has described Perham as a "seriously funny guy with a professionally honed native wit, which inevitably leaves his audiences weak from laughter." Early life Joe was born in West Paris, Maine, and is one of thirteen children in the Perham family. When Perham was eight, his family moved to a 200-acre farm overlooking West Paris. Otisfield is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2020 census. Otisfield is a summer recreation area and home to Seeds of Peace Camp and Camp Arcadia. History It was granted by the Massachusetts General Court on June 15, 1771 to James Otis, Nathaniel Gorham and other descendants of Captain John Gorham and certain members of his company who had fought in the 1690 Battle of Quebec.
