Outstanding Artist Award For Music
The Outstanding Artist Award for Music is given annually by the Federal Chancellery of Austria for achievements that influence the current art scene. Creative people are honored who can already show a meaningful oeuvre and whose works are of artistic supraregional importance. The prize is endowed with €10,000. The award winners are selected by an independent expert jury. The prize is awarded as a category of the Outstanding Artist Awards. In total, the Outstanding Artists Awards are given in 14 categories. The predecessor award State Prize for Music (Staatspreis für Musik) was given from 1950 to 1970. In 2009, the award was named Outstanding Artist Award for Music. Chancellery (Austria)
In Austrian politics, the Federal Chancellery (german: Bundeskanzleramt, lit=federal chancellery, abbreviated ; historically also and ) is the ministry led by the chancellor. Since the establishment of the First Austrian Republic in 1918, the Chancellery building has served as the venue for the sessions of the Austrian cabinet. It is located on the Ballhausplatz in the centre of Vienna, vis-à-vis the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Herbert Willi
Herbert Willi (born ) is an Austrian composer of classical music, whose orchestral works, concertos and chamber music have been performed internationally and also recorded. Willi composed an opera, ''Schlafes Bruder'', for the Opernhaus Zürich. Life Willi was born in Bludenz, Vorarlberg. He studied music pedagogy and theology at the University of Innsbruck, and simultaneously bassoon and piano at the Innsbruck conservatory. From 1983, he studied composition with Helmut Eder at the Salzburg Mozarteum, then with Boguslaw Schaeffer. He lives in Sankt Anton im Montafon. Work Willi's work comprises an opera, orchestral works, and chamber music, including compositions for one player. Gerhard Schedl
Gerhard Schedl (5 August 1957 – 30 November 2000) was an Austrian composer. Professional career Gerhard Schedl was born in Vienna and began composing during his childhood. In 1976 he began his professional studies with Erich Urbanner at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna. He graduated with distinction in 1980. He taught at Dr. Hoch's Konservatorium from 1981 to 2000. Schedl had early success with his music dramatic works including his oratorio ''Der Großinquisitor'' (The Grand Inquisitor) and his opera for children ''Der Schweinehirt'' (The Swineherd). Schedl also composed chamber music and symphonic works. His compositions were played by musicians, ensembles and orchestras such as David Geringas, Dennis Russell Davies, the ORF Symphony Orchestra and the Ensemble Modern. Heinz Karl "Nali" Gruber (born 3 January 1943), who styles himself HK Gruber professionally, is an Austrian composer, conductor, double bass player and singer. He is a leading figure of the so-called Third Viennese School. Career Gruber is said to be a descendant (though the descent remains obscure) of Franz Xaver Gruber, composer of the carol ''Stille Nacht'' (Silent Night). He was born in Vienna. From 1953 to 1957 Gruber was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir, acquiring his nickname 'Nali' (from his snoring, he believes). Josef Maria Horváth (born 20 December 1931 in Pécs, Hungary ; died 21 October 2019 in Salzburg, Austria) is a Hungarian composer, pianist, and conductor. Friedrich Cerha (born 17 February 1926) is an Austrian composer, conductor and music educator. Education and Career Cerha was born in Vienna, Austria, and educated at the Viennese Music Academy (violin with Váša Příhoda, composition with Alfred Uhl, music education) and received a doctorate from the University of Vienna (musicology, German culture and language, philosophy). Iván Erőd ( hu, Erőd Iván ; 2 January 1936 – 24 June 2019; sometimes spelled ''Eröd'') was a Hungarian-Austrian composer and pianist.
