Anjouan
Anjouan (; also known as Ndzuwani or Nzwani, and historically as Johanna or Hinzuan) is an autonomous high island in the Indian Ocean that forms part of the Union of the Comoros. Its chief town is Mutsamudu and, , its population is around 277,500. The total area of the island is 424 square kilometers (163 square miles). History Early and colonial history The first inhabitants of the island were explorers and immigrants from Indonesia and Polynesia. After that Bantu people arrived. Then people all around the Indian Ocean began to come to Anjouan and the Comoro Islands. In about 1500, the Sultanate of Ndzuwani (Anjouan) was founded, which took over the entire island (for further information see: List of sultans on the Comoros). The sultanate was the most powerful of all the Comorian sultanates. In 1816, Sultan Alawi bin Husain requested French assistance against the Sultanate of Zanzibar which was threatening his domain. Coralie Frei
Coralie Frei (born October 12, 1951) is a Comorian nurse and writer currently living in Switzerland. She is the first Comorian woman to write a novel, and has also written poetry. Born in Ouani, she began her studies in her native town before continuing them in Mutsamudu and at the Lycée Saïd Mohamed Cheik in Moroni. After obtaining a '' baccalaureat'' in philosophy in 1973, she married, but it did not last, and she travelled to France for further study and to seek a divorce. Frei continued her studies, in English and Spanish, at the Universities of Toulouse and Pau, and remarried there. Upon receiving her degree in Pau, she chose instead to take a nurse's diploma. She raised five children during this time, and is a grandmother. Loub Yacout Zaïdou
Loub Yakout Zaïdou is a Comorian midwife, administrator and politician serving as the current Minister for Health, Solidarity, Social Protection and Gender Promotion. Biography Born as Loub Yacout Attoumane in Ouani on the island of Anjouan, she graduated from the Mutsamudu lycée in 1979. She obtained a higher technical diploma in obstetrics in 1983 from the Medicine School of Tunis and worked as a midwife at the Hombo state hospital from 1984 to 1987. Between 1987 and 1990 she studied in Senegal, obtaining another higher technical diploma in nursing. Upon returning to the Comoros, Zaïdou undertook roles in health education and family planning. From 1997 to 1999 she attended the National School of Administration (ÉNA) of Côte d'Ivoire, completing studies in health management.
