Otakar Slavík
Otakar Slavík (18 December 1931, Pardubice - 3 November 2010, Vienna) was a painter, draughtsman and printmaker, signatory of Charter 77. He spent his childhood there and graduated from the Stadtschule. After the war he apprenticed for one year in a porcelain factory in Klášterec nad Ohří and then moved to the ceramics school in Bechyně (1946-1948). From 1948-1952 he studied sculpture at the ''Secondary Industrial School of Stone and Sculpture in Hořice''. Pardubice
Pardubice (; german: Pardubitz) is a city in the Czech Republic. It has about 89,000 inhabitants. It is the capital city of the Pardubice Region and lies on the Elbe River. The historic centre is well preserved and is protected as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument reservations, urban monument reservation. In the history of Czechoslovakia, normalization ( cs, normalizace, sk, normalizácia) is a name commonly given to the period following the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and up to the ''glasnost'' era of liberalization that began in the Soviet Union and its neighboring nations in 1987. It was characterized by the restoration of the conditions prevailing before the Prague Spring reform period led by the First Secretary Alexander Dubček of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) earlier in 1968 and the subsequent preservation of the new ''status quo''. The Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia refers to the events of 20–21 August 1968, when the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic was jointly invaded by four Warsaw Pact countries: the Soviet Union, the Polish People's Republic, the People's Republic of Bulgaria and the Hungarian People's Republic. The invasion stopped Alexander Dubček's Prague Spring liberalisation reforms and strengthened the authoritarian wing of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). Ivan Martin Jirous (23 September 1944 – 9 November 2011) was a Czech poet and dissident, best known as the artistic director of the Czech psychedelic rock group The Plastic People of the Universe, and later one of the key figures of the Czech underground during the communist regime. He is more frequently known as Magor, which can be roughly translated as "shithead",Zantovsky 2014, p161 "loony", or "fool" (though meant as a positive title), a nickname given to him by the experimental poet . The Václav Špála Gallery (Czech: Galerie Václava Špály) is a Prague gallery of mostly contemporary art. It is located at no. 59/30 Národní třída, in the New Town of Prague (Praha 1 – Nové Město). The gallery holds exhibitions particularly of works by living Czech professional artists of the middle generation who are among the best painters, photographers, and sculptors on the art scene today. Mánes Union Of Fine Arts
The Mánes Association of Fine Artists ( or ''S.V.U.''; commonly abbreviated as ''Manes'') was an artists' association and exhibition society founded in 1887 in Prague and named after painter Josef Mánes. The Manes was significant for its international exhibitions before and after World War I that encouraged interaction between Czech artists and the foreign avant-garde. It played an important role in the development of Czech Cubism and Rondocubism. Between 1928 and 1930, Manes built a complex with a restaurant, club, showroom and offices at the site of the Štítkovský Mill and water tower on the Vltava. Výstaviště in Prague is an exhibition ground which is used for exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events, founded in 1891. It is located in Bubeneč near the metro station on Metro line C Nádraží Holešovice. In the immediate area on the west side there is a large park Stromovka and a planetarium, on the eastern Tipsport Arena, home hall of the club HC Sparta Praha. The dominant building on its premises is the Industrial Palace, also found here are the Křižík's Light fountain, Lapidarium of the National Museum, World of the Oceans aquarium, Pyramid Theatre and panorama of the Battle of Lipany by Luděk Marold (the largest image in the Czech Republic). Václav Boštík
Václav Boštík (6 November 1913 – 7 May 2005) was a Czech painter, graphic artist and illustrator. In 1937 he joined the Academy in Prague and from 1942, he was a member of the ''Umělecká beseda'' (Art Forum). In 1960 he became one of the founding members of the UB 12 Group. His early work is much influenced by painters Corot and Cézanne and realism. However, by the late 1950s, he had begun painting abstract art. Later he participated in the restoration of Renaissance artistic work on the facade of Litomyšl castle. In 1991 he was awarded the ''Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres'' (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letter) by the French government.Karel SRP (2011), Vaclav Bostik, p. 455, Prague, Shortly before his death, in 2004 he received an award from the Minister of Culture and in the same year Medal of Merit from the President of the Czech Republic.
